Catalan Team at 100% !
Who is ready to learn Catalan because soon, it will be possible ! The Catalan team just reached 100% and we will be able to learn the beautiful romantic language of Catalonia ! Even if it is in Spanish, I think it will be a great practice. Who planned to learn Catalan on Duolingo ?
I'm hoping for a quick release, maybe in a month or so... let's hope there won't be another TTS odyssey :)
They said in their most recent update that they also have to write all of their tips and notes, so it might take longer than that.
I'm looking forward to trying the Catalan course, but since my Spanish is mediocre at best I'll probably wait until I get better in that first. I hope that there will be enough interest in a Catalan for French speakers course once this one is out of beta, because I would be on that in a heartbeat! :D
Yes ! Catalan for French would be great :D ! But I think a logical choice would be Breton for French speakers
With Irish and Welsh already being added to Duolingo, I'd say Breton has a pretty good chance of being the next Celtic language. :)
I'd like to see Breton, but I hope you're wrong because I want to see Scottish Gaelic next. That is, assuming they have to come one at a time.
Well there aren't that many Celtic languages, so it's either going to be Breton or Scottish Gaelic. But I hadn't though about it yet, and even though Breton has a larger speaker base most of them live in France so that course will probably be added in French first. So it is probably more likely Scottish Gaelic will be added for English speakers first.
This is all pure speculation though, who knows, if there are enough contributors both courses might be added sometime in the future.
Scottish Gaelic is also spoken on Cape Breton here in Canada(which is still mostly English-speaking), though I think you're right about it not coming for French speakers first. In any case I was thinking of Celtic languages in general and not the learners' languages.
I would love to have Catalan courses for at least those languages also spoken in Catalan-speaking areas. Namely, Spanish, French and Italian. Also, I would like to see Catalan for English speakers and some courses for Catalan speakers: English, French, Esperanto and Occitan.
It'll probably be made for English speakers before that, but I hope later on it's also for French speakers!
salut on est en train de le demander, soutenez nous pour avoir le cours de catalan pour français!
I'm so ready to start l'arbre de català!^^ I wonder what they are doing for the TTS? Are there good TTS options out there for Catalan?
Ooh, from the little bit that I played with it, that definitely sounds great to me! I'm glad to know there are options out there, at least.
I can't tell how good the Catalan voice is, but some of their other voices are really good. I think the Korean voice is pretty accurate too and I like the huge selection of English voices (the teenage voice is really convincing).
What I like the most is the intonation which is pretty well made in my opinion
So excited for this. Have been studying it on and off for about 3 years now.
I've been looking forward to this course for a long time. Hoping I have time to finally finish the Danish tree before it comes out, though!
I would so love to learn Catalan, but I don't know any Spanish. Maybe I could learn them both at the same time now! ;)
This is very dangerous, you will probably mix them up :S If you are not interested at all in spanish I recommend you to wait until the English couse is created. But I have no idea if it's in Duo's early future plans.
Might be a bit confusing learning them at the same time. Don't need one to have the other but it does help.
Visca el català, visca la Catalunya!
I am going to start the Catalan course the moment it comes out!
I'm going to try to finish the Spanish course first. I'm not silly enough to think this will give me enough Spanish to do Catalan-From-Spanish, but I have to try!
YES! I hope that it is released in time for my families move to Spain. I have friends that speak Català, and I have been super excited about being able to speak it at some point with them.
The course page takes a long while to update the actual percentage (sometimes days it seems). Course progress is updated on the Incubator page every hour. You can inspect the page or use a userscript to reveal the percentage completed.
Looking forward to it - should be good revision for basic Spanish vocabulary too I would think! I'm studying Spanish at university so hopefully the whole different base language shouldn't be a problem but it's always handy to go over the essentials too.
I'm hoping at some point a Galician course will be possible (and as I'm studying some now who knows, I could contribute!) as I really think sites like Duolingo are a great way to conserve regional languages as well as to teach truly global tongues and linguae francae like Spanish and English. Visca Catalunya!
I want to learn Catalan but I need a Catalan course for English speakers. My knowledge of Spanish is not good enough to learn it in Spanish.
I'm desperate for a Catalan for English speakers' course! My partner is Catalan and I'm finding it difficult to grasp the language. If there is a Klingon course on duolingo, surely duolingo can organise a Catalan one!
