You can combine letters to represent Danish characters like so:

ae = æ

oe = ø

aa = å

so:

aesel = æsel (= ass)

poelse = pølse (= sausage)

laas = lås (= lock)

Most Danes will understand you if you write this way, and there are even some city names in Denmark that use this spelling method to this day, like Taastrup, Aarhus and Aalborg.

If you still want to write proper Danish characters though, you will have to change your keyboard settings on your computer to use a Danish layout.
