Could the mobile Version please offer alternatives to Americanisms? It's very jarring to translate футбол in my head to soccer when football is a much closer translation

I dont like pkaying football when there's strong wind is marked as wrong and it is probably beacuse of soccer. This is so annoying! A sport which world wide known as football and named after soccer in one country only. DL, please change this

In South Africa it is called soccer too.

'I do not like playing football in strong wind' is the most natural and idiomatic way to translate this sentence in English. The 'correct' answer given here frankly sounds stilted & awkward and would only be expressed thus by a non-native speaker

I think that "I don't like" should be accepted, as well as " I do not like"

error report: it says "soccer" not football. I reported it

Is it incorrect to say "когда есть сильный ветер"?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Alex2537

You can say "когда дует сильный ветер" - when a strong wind is blowing.

And soccer has to be changed for football. Everyone in the world call that sport football. I guess only in the us is called soccer

Soccer ? Shouldnt be football?

Better than playing Теннис when there's strong wind!

Better still than Badminton

Wow that's crazy! If they miss the ball they'll never find it again :P

There is no soccer, dear Americans, there's only football! Sincerely, the rest of the world

Why is в witten в and not во ? As far as i know it should be right ?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Osama357467

The version with есть was accepted in case anyone is wondering

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Alex2537

Yes, it's grammatically correct, but not natural to say in Russian.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Osama357467

Thanks, that's useful to know.

I don't like to play soccer when the wind is very strong. (?)

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/aspencer

Wind is an uncountable noun, so the "a" is not necessary. There is strong wind, there are strong winds.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/flootzavut

You can also say 'a strong wind' IMO. For example, a strong wind from the east.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/lannjenks

A strong wind sounds normal.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/marge255

I agree that you can say a strong wind. A is not necessary, but it is a correct option.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Sal858490

When it is very windy, when the wind is strong, when there is a strong wind...all correct. The first is the best in the present context.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/ap2907

You wrote that 'wind' is uncountable then you wrote 'winds'.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/BenFresoli

Any other Americans getting confused by this?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/OzymandiasKoK

Ben - isn't being confused a natural state for Americans?!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/bojangelis

Or does it relate to a more smelly wind?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/LordFlando

Why is "I don't like to play soccer when there is a strong wind" not accepted?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/MSlaughter333

is "...when the wind is strong." accepted

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/jcwAWo

Is :"I dont like to play soccer when there is stong winds" wrong?
