Duolingo Language Poll: It Begins

Hello, everyone!

I took many suggestions for a week, as promised, and would like to thank everyone who submitted a suggestion for a language that should be included in the poll! Voting will run for two weeks, or will stop if the poll goes 48 hours at any point without a vote being cast.

EDIT: Some people have asked that I make it possible to choose multiple languages in the poll. So, I've amended the poll to allow multiple responses. However, I ask that each voter please only vote once, and select no more than 3 languages when voting. (Note that before the amendment Indonesian had 2 votes, and Scottish Gaelic had 1 vote).

I encourage everyone who votes to spread the poll to as many people as possible! Without further ado, here is the link to the poll: http://goo.gl/forms/DC3goW6C6j Thanks!

Hi JohnDuff4,

If you want to make a [course] suggestion, we encourage you to visit the forums and making a search for suggestions that have been made in the past, and adding your vote and comments to those existing posts [and thus not creating a new one]. That will make the request more popular and make it stand out more, encouraging more people to add their votes. :)

From Help Center: "How can I suggest a new language course?"
Note: Texts in between square brackets are additions of mine.

Having a lot of users asking for a course is far from being the only criteria for a course to be added.

I guess JohnDuff4 just didn't mention that the poll is only about course of XXXX for English speakers.

N.B.: Arabic, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin (Chinese) and Thai are also languages already in the incub (and that are in the poll).

Still, unless things have been added since I last checked, those courses aren't teaching those languages. Either way, Vietnamese is being incubated for English speakers right now.

Indeed, Vietnamese is strange in this poll...

For Catalan, it isn't teaching from English, so I just listed other languages in the incub but with no course teaching them from EN (since it seems the focus of this discussion (cf. also ASL)).

I am surprised Scottish Gaelic is as popular as it is, but then again, it is a langauge I know a lot of people want (Including myself) What I really want is more east asian languages however, But I saw little point in voting on Japanese/Korean/Chinese when I knew they would come eventually anyway. So I voted for some east asian languages which COULD be added now (But I kind of wonder, why are they not here?) Tagalog and Indonesian. They should both be totally compatible for Duolingo's system and SERIOUSLY open up a lot of new asian opportunities. As both countries have very high populations. As far as I know? The Indonesian teams is already ready for a Indonesian for English speakers course, they are just waiting patiently for the green light :3

To the next poll can you add Literary Koine Greek, the language of the Greek and Early Roman Empire?

It is probably the second most used ancient language next to Latin.
