An and the

I have only just started learning Irish and I don't know what "an" is in Irish. I know that "the" is "an" but I'm not sure what "a" or "an" translates to. Thank you for any help!

Hi there; the Irish language doesn't use the indefinite articles that we know as "a" or "an", so that "a dog" in English would translate into Irish as simply "madra" (dog).
