Swedish pronunctiations

Hej,

I have a small question about how to pronounce some Swedish letter combinations. The robot does not pronounce those correctly, I believe, and even if it does it'd be great if this could be cleared up.

I heard there's words like "stjärna" that are not pronounced the way they are written. That, for example, "stj" in "stjärna" this sounds like a "g".

Are there any rules when it comes to pronunciations like these?

The first sound in stjärna is the so-called sj-sound, which is represented in the International Phonetic Alphabet by the symbol /ɧ/. It's a tough sound for language learners to acquire, and phoneticians have not even come to a consensus on exactly how it's articulated. You can read about the sound at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sj-sound. There are a handful of YouTube videos dedicated to this sound; you might start with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFyAN1m2iug.

Try simultaneously articulating an 'f' and a 'ch' (as in German Ich--not a gutteral 'ch'). With the right balance between the two, it sounds like the same sound to my ears.
