When to use 'utan' vs 'men'?

Hi, I just want to ask when I should say 'utan' or 'men'?

Tack sa mycket, Jesse

"Utan" is used like "But rather". e.g. "Den är inte min, utan min sons" -> "It's not mine, but rather my son's".

"Men" is used for pretty much any other meaning "But" can have.

As I understand it, you use utan when the second part of the sentence contradicts the first, as in "huset är inte rött utan vitt"

As opposed to "hon är inte vacker men jag gillar henne", where men is used to connect two clauses that are not contradictory
