Yes, you did spell спасибо correctly. :) I really like this website and this one. Wikipedia also often has good grammar explanations, and yes, reading the news in Russian is a great way to improve your fluency. There are some good cartoons (with English subtitles, though I think you can turn them off) here, and some good music links here. Hope these help!
