[Question] Reinforcing words

I was wondering: Does practicing a lesson reinforce the questions you get right during the exercise, even if you fail the exercise as a whole? Obviously this is so during a timed practice, but what about regular three-hearts practice? I've noticed I tend to get the same 20 questions (with minor variations) every time I redo practice until I pass it, despite any I may get correct in the meantime.

Ok, you've been doing this longer than I have, so pardon me if I am not telling you anything new. I've noticed that as I learn more lessons, whenever I go back to practice something I feel weak in (say conjunctions or questions), the vocabulary I learned after those will be incorporated into the exercises. Has that not happened for you? However, if I just repeat a lesson book, it does seem to make only minor changes in the specific exercises--that repetition helps me, but it does also repeat the ones I keep getting right. It is more challenging to go to the complete vocabulary list and click on Practice Weakest Words-then you never know what you'll get, but it does tend to cycle through different vocabulary and do more mixing of vocabulary.

Yes that happens for me too, that's just how the lessons are generated. They pick a word from the category you're practicing, then fit a sentence to it using words you've learned so far. I think only this one chosen word is strengthened when you pass, and I'm talking about something else related specifically to the word strength and deciding which words get chosen for practice.

I haven't noticed this in the targeted practice, but probably because the vocabulary for those is smaller to begin with, and I don't tend to redo individual lesson books much. When I practice everything at once (I believe the blue "Lesson Practice" on the front page and "Practice Weakest Words" in vocabulary do the same thing), an exercise is generated with 20 random questions to test 20 of your weakest words. If I were to fail on question 19, when I retry the practice session I will get the same 20 questions, or rather the same 20 words since the sentences do differ slightly, regardless of the 15 I passed last time that should now be marked stronger. The fact I failed the exercise automatically marks everything as failed despite me having known most of it. I'm sure I'm wrong on some of the mechanics here but this is how it seems to work so far.

I feel like the passed words should be upgraded in strength and phased out for the next round, sort of the way timed practice upgrades passed words and disregards whatever you fail or don't get to if the timer runs out. At least this way the practice can cover more ground and won't keep repeating the same dozen easy questions until I get the harder ones right. Then again, this seems to be reflected in the scoring systems of the two modes, so maybe it's an intentional thing.

I would prefer it to work the way you suggest.

However, I wonder if it would be discouraging. If you keep (partially) failing and then get tested on new words each time it might become very difficult to ever complete a set of 20 questions.
