Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

過去は戻らない。(この文を__に訳しなさい)

Welcome to the 27th Daily Translation Game! Try and translate this sentence into your language. As usual, I started us off with translating the english sentence into Japanese. You can choose any language you like of course (One you know or are learning), and is not limited to duolingo languages! You can also translate it into 2 or more languages if you are up for the challange! The purpose of this game is for good practice, and of course fun. It will also be cool seing this sentence in other languages, and we can help each other out if we make a mistake, or just learn something new! :D The sentence I put together in english is...

The past will not return

My last 26 games can be found here:

The plentiful harvest in the cornucopia was magnificent

I got a perfect score on my geometry test!

Polish is coming soon to Duolingo!

Life is priceless

My pleasant dream slowly faded away

Use your sword!

The gentle breeze blew away the fallen leaves.

He wiped away her tears.

My new car is expensive.

Today, the blue sky is beautiful!

The airplane is leaving the airport.

I must protect my own people!

The human race, will eventually die of civilization.

Cancer is pure evil.

Grab your umbrella, it is raining!

I am not afraid of death!

Tonight is Halloween, so let's carve pumpkins!

Last week, I saw an English movie at the movie theatre.

Venus is the 2nd planet of the solar system.

When Suzuki was young, she was not skilled in Korean (language)

Today is Friday, we are going to a party!

Did you visit Tokyo Tower?

I went to the train station yesterday.

She traveled all throughout the world.

Only, in certain things, you can be certain of the idea of certain things. (Hosted by HeyItsOcarina)

You don't have to make an exact translation, just get the point across! As always, If you submit a comment written in another language, like I did mine, please write it in the romanization so others can hear what it would feel like!

EDIT: The inspiration for today's qoute was from someone I know who always says this (in english) when someone would have a bad experience the day before. He was bassicaly saying there is no help in worrying about yesterday, when you can be living in "the now". It can't be helped!

Seriously though, if you a learning Japanese/want to, learn how to not depend on romaji!

Esperanto: La pasinteco redonos ne. (La pastinteco ne revenos.)

Dansk: Fortiden vil vende tilbage ikke.

Lingua latīna: Praeteritum nōn redībit. (I found a book in the library on Latin today so this is 0% correct but I had to give it a go)

Íslenska: Fortíðin mun snúa ekki aftur.

Kalaallisut: Qanganngortoq utissanngilaq.

No adjectives this time!! Thank you!!! They are universally terrible :P

Haha, yeah! I actually kinda like Japanese adjectives :P

Oh cool look, Lingua latīna. I have always really wanted to take a closer look at the language, as my uncle knows a little.

I wish I had those kinda books at my school library. We just have Hawaiin, Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin at mine :P

Nice and very interesting translations as always, and good luck with that Catalan!

Thanks for playing, brother!

"redoni" is "give back" ... but I think "will not return" means "will not come back" here :)

Also, your "ne" should come before the verb, I think.

Thank you. Well, I will try to explain. :) In Latin script it would be written as "Prošlost se neće vratiti." Letter "š" is pronounced as "sh" in the word "rush", and letter "ć" is pronounced as "ci" in the Italian word "ciao". I hope that helped. Keep up the good work. I like your posts very much. :)

May be I make minor change and try best explain on your sentence so easier for you to get use learn from sentence of yourself.

过去将不来到返回

Your sentence 将不来到 is sound like will not come to, and 返回 is return, in a sentence with this build will sound weird (come to + return), besides 将不来到 also not a proper sentence in chinese, we do not say 将不来到. But we did say 将不会来到.

Well, now come to fix your sentence, I won't change your sentence to 过去将不来到返回, because as I said, will sound weird (come to + return).

But your sentence may change to below this 2.

过去将不返回 / 过去将不回来

过去的: The past

将不会: will not

返回 / 回来: return

I not sure are you able to understand the explaination, because my english not really good either, I just try my best to explain.

Firstly, I would like to appreciate your interest in our language!

I'm sorry to disturb you, allow me to edit the original Japanese sentence a bit.「戻す」(inflected form: 戻さない) is a transitive verb, while in this context it should be intransitive verb, namely「戻る」(inflected form: 戻らない). Thus the given sentence would be 「過去は戻らない」.

Thank you again for your great effort to organize the "この文を__に訳しなさい" activity.

https://www.duolingo.com/NukuchAjau

Oh wow! Thanks for the help! I'm sorry for the mistake :P

And thank you! I love Japanese :D It is my favourite foreign language!

If you ever see anything wrong or emberassing in any of my previous posts, please do correct! Altough, another Japanese native speaker often comes by already.

Once again, thank you so much!

By the way, I'm not even sure if my current title of the activity makes sense, since I made it when I was a veryyy begginer! Would a better name be 翻訳ゲーム?

EDIT: Fixed! Also, sorry again, my dictionary didn't clarify if it was transitive or not!

Thanks for your reply. I've already noticed that some Japanese (native) speakers visited these thread and posted some corrections.

The "この文を__に訳しなさい" is indeed catchy, nice title. "翻訳コンテスト" (translation contest) can be an alternative, but I think the former is much much better and no need to edit.
