I hope so! I mean, they definitely will eventually, and it's possible they've already started—but chances are they're going to wait a few months to see how the Spanish one is doing and then use that as a template for an English one. They also need a different team of contributors to work on it, since some of the contributors to the Spanish Catalan course are probably not fluent enough in English. But I'd say it's only a matter of time before they start working on an English Catalan course, and then maybe a French or Portuguese Catalan course.

Doktorkampi said, in a thread about Sicilian, at https://www.duolingo.com/comment/11182776 ,

The more the merrier. As others have said before, I also think that it is going to be easier to start with a Sicilian for Italian speakers course. It was our case for Catalan. We also wanted to release a Catalan for English speakers, but when we are talking about minority languages it is more effective if we know better our target audience. Maybe some English speakers with Sicilian ancestors are willing to learn it, but I think that the best we can give to a minority language is to revive or revitalize it in the place where it was born, and that is Sicily (and some parts the southern Italian peninsula)...

The home territory of Catalan is some of Spain, some of France, some of Italy and all of Andorra (where it is the official language) according to http://celt.indiana.edu/portal/languages/catalan/index.html .

Maybe Duolingo will add Catalan for French speakers and Catalan for Italian speakers before it adds Catalan for English speakers?

I don't really know what course is going to come first. It's not up to me. I can see that there is a real demand on getting a Catalan course for English speakers. I think we should prepare it, I agree. But I am not sure which should come first, wheter English or French. I volunteer for both. In my opinion, a course for English speakers would be very successful, but French makes more sense if we are take into account that Catalan language needs to be revitalized in the territory where it's been spoken historically. And one of those places is Southern France, also known as Northern Catalonia. French is taking the place of Catalan in the new generations, and I think that our efforts should focus in that direction.

Let's try to concentrate all supports for "Catalan from French" in one place (in the French forum): https://www.duolingo.com/comment/15962433 ;)

The places in France and Italy where it is spoken are very small, though. I would expect a course for English speakers first.

I saw somewhere one of the Catalan team said they will start working on Catalan for English or French speakers after Catalan for Spanish speakers leaves beta.

I think there will be a course for the other romance languages first, since they are more likely to meet an actual Catalan speaker (based on geography), but they will definitely have one for English speakers eventually. And maybe from there, other languages.

Yes, Catalan for English speakers would be great. And not everyone knows Spanish.
