POLISH is coming!!!!!
They are now at 100% on the course page. DUOLINGOERS an amazing day that many have waited for is coming... be prepared!!!!
I don't plan to try the Polish course, but as a big Polandball comics fan, I wonder if they will include this word in a strange context hahaha
It's just a word, and it isn't directed at anyone or used in a menacing way. Sorry, though.
All the courses for English speakers (except French, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch) went into beta on a Monday or a Thursday, so maybe it will be here tomorrow or on Thanksgiving! :D
Probably not on Thursday, since I doubt anyone on the Duo staff are going to work on Thanksgiving, and someone has to actually be there to open the course, from what I understand...
YAY I wanted to learn Polish for so long and now I can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
You might be right, it really is on 100% now!
I had hoped to have made a bit more progress through the Russian tree before it was finally released, but... can anyone explain the Polish IME for windows? I need to start thinking about how on earth to type all those diacritics.
If you use a PC, then you just go to the control panel and choose "Clock, Language and Region". From there, under "Region and Language", choose "Change Keyboards or Other Input Methods". A dialog box will appear. Click on the button for "Change Keyboards". From there, you would click on the "add" button. You will be presented with all the keyboard languages alphabetically. Choose Polish. I love my Polish keyboard. I just have to toggle it on and then I use the right side alt key at the same time with the letter in question and it will show me the letter with the diacritical mark. Mogę używać litery jak ą ę ó żć. To get ź, which is different from ż, click on the right alt key simultaneously with the x key. I hope that this helps. I can't wait for the Polish course!
Dziękuję, that's all very straightforward. I can't work out what the difference is between the 'Polish (programmers)' and Polish 'US-International' keyboards, however.
I use Polish Programmers and it's a standard American keyboard layout, but ctrl-alt-letter gives me that letter with its Polish diacritic.
I checked and I am using the Polish Programmer keyboard as well. It works real well.
alt+letter is enough. ;) programmer's keyboard is the Polish standard, I don't think I have ever come across a different layout.
I'd think there be buttons like in the Irish course, since they also use the Roman alphabet. You can also easily switch over to a Polish keyboard since you're on Windows.
All right, I've been waiting for months!
...... bursts outside and shouts CONGRATS POLISH TEAM !!!
I still remember few weeks ago that the expected realease date of Polish course will be like July 2016. But, respect to the Polish Team for the amount of work they've put in to release this course by this year. I'm very excited!
Just learn this tongue twister, "w Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie." I remember it took me half a day to learn to say it fast. I hear some polish natives have trouble saying it.
personally I find the likes of stół z powyłamywanymi nogami or wyindywidualizowaliśmy się z rozentuzjazmowanego tłumu much worse.
It's same as dzi - the only triphthong in Polish! (I know everything - i am from Polish)
