In the last week I've noticed a change in the Duolingo application.

Gone are the multiple choice which provided another way to translate from English to the foreign language. Now I seem to get the same 2 english sentences to translate and the remainder are Italian to English.

Strengthen skills use to give a variety of questions from different units. Now I'm only getting simple Italian to English questions from the top part of the tree - the very easy stuff. Majority Italian to English with 2 or 3 or the SAME english to Italian.

I need more challenge!!!

The multiple choice questions have been removed due to a technical problem. There were numerous complaints because they were always noted as answered wrong.
I guess they might return at some point after the error in the script has been corrected.

Thanks for the reply.

It would be great if they would add more English to Italian questions to compensate.

90% Italian to English is not much of a challenge

There are a couple options to get more English to other language questions:

  • Do the reverse tree. I'm doing this for French and am sorry that I didn't start it sooner. In my case, I have another account for this so that I can set it to no verbal questions as I don't need practice in listening to English or speaking English.

  • Turn the microphone on for your current tree. This shifts the proportion of questions so that you are getting more questions to type or speak in the other language.

I work on the both trees and keep them at current strength. And yes there is a lot more english to italian in the reverse tree. I turn the speaker off on the reverse tree obviously.

I've tried the mic but I must have a horrible accent because it just frustrates me!

I hope they bring back the multilple choice. I would write out the translation and then check to the options and I found it really improved my fluency.

Thanks for your help!

Maybe they've been removed only temporarily. I hadn't noticed the technical problem with them.

I haven't seen any for about a week in either French or Norwegian. Today I've not used the app yet, though. Maybe there is another update?
