Welcome to the 31st Daily Translation Game! Try and translate this sentence into your language. As usual, I started us off with translating the english sentence into Japanese. You can choose any language you like of course (One you know or are learning), and is not limited to duolingo languages! You can also translate it into 2 or more languages if you are up for the challange! The purpose of this game is for good practice, and of course fun. It will also be cool seing this sentence in other languages, and we can help each other out if we make a mistake, or just learn something new! :D The sentence I put together in english is...

Hello, I don't know how to translate your sentence into Dutch or Russian since I just started learning both of them, but I wanted to ask, since you're learning or already know Japanese, do you know how I can memorize the hiragana and katakana quickly, because I'm kind of struggling with them. I already know some like, あ, う, ま, り, の, て, で, し, い, か, は, く, and ん. But that's only the hiragana, I don't know any katakana. So, do you have any methods?

https://www.duolingo.com/NukuchAjau

Hello RussianDutches

It's fine! Alright, so I learned hiragana and katakana using two resources.

The first would be Memrise. There are plenty of course that teach hiragana and katakana, and you can learn it all within days (but keep practicing by reading).

Also if you google "Tae Kim's complete guide to japanese", and click on writing systems, he goes over them both, supplies a chart, and even introduces kanji and compound hiragana sounds. I don't have the exact links right now, but If i fin them I will contact you.

Don't let the numbers daunt you. One you learn all of hiragana, katakana will become somewhat easier to you, because the characters looks somewhat the same. If you need any help at all with Japanese, I'm glad to help :D

EDIT: Found the Memrise course I used ages ago http://www.memrise.com/course/80119/learn-basic-japanese/

Just do lessons 3-9

Once you get it down, it's easy, like reading english letters. ;) good luck.

Your translations are always very interesting, I don't think I have ever seen anyone so interested in old norse. May I say, you are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work and thanks for playing as always!

Glad you like it! I want to become fluent at some point so I can understand Norse mentality and mythology. I know many other people that are interested in Old Norse and know it much better so it's a good thing because I can learn from them :þ

Not really. An Icelander and a Norse speaker would understand each other's writtings, but the pronunciation has changed significantly so it might be a problem. If I ever become fluent in Old Norse I'd try to learn Icelandic as well. It'd very easy, but I would still need some work.
