If for any reason you do not want another user to be able to post on your Activity stream, please note that Duolingo has a block feature. To access this feature, visit the profile of the person you wish to block. Look to the right of their profile picture. There is a light grey gear that is almost invisible. Click it and select "Block".

By blocking a user, do we stop seeing the discussions that they post ?

Hi KozmoW! Nope. It only prevents the both of you from commenting on each other's activity streams.

IIRC it also stops e-mail notifications from anything they post on what you say.

Hi! The way I understand it, staff recently recoded the entire website because it was out of date. Unfortunately, the Activity stream started crashing the website after. Staff had plans to introduce a new messaging system, but the crash caused them to remove Activity before the expected time. While they get the new messaging system up and running, we're without one. Please go to Activity Stream Update for more information or if you have other questions or comments about the removal of the Activity stream or the future messaging system. Thanks! :)

I hope to never need this feature, I am glad it is there. I wonder if Duolingo monitors blocking. Say if 100+ users block the same person do you look at their posts and see if they are disruptive?

Duolingo keeps a record of who we block and who blocks us, but I don't think they do anything with that data. Which is fortunate for me because many people block moderators (which, makes no sense. If a moderator can't make contact to communicate a breach of guidelines, either a different moderator has to or it's a community ban since there is nothing else to be done to encourage different behavior.) Instead of relying on block numbers, since people block for many different reasons, Duolingo relies on tips from users to moderators.

Does this take some time to work? Users I've blocked are posting all over my stream!

Back when the Activity Stream was an active feature, it would have worked immediately.

I'm sincerely trying to decipher if your comment was meant as sarcasm (if so I'm chuckling) or if there has been some kind of odd bug affecting your account. In case of the latter, I've scanned your account's interactions back through the last 8 days and I'm not seeing those interactions. If the block had been delayed and kicked in after you left this comment, I would still be able to view those comments.

Contact a moderator. Duolingo takes harassment seriously.

I really appreciate duolingo's block feature. I can't say that I've ever really needed to use it, but it has provided psychological gratification from time to time. Be that as it may, I am beginning to suspect that someone I may actually know from real life may be using the duolingo platform to target my contributions for reasons other than, well, let's just say, "goodwill."

I suspect this person targets my posts by viewing my activity feed. If I block this person (which I've been tempted to do but haven't done yet), will that prevent that person from seeing my activity feed? Also, is there any way to find out who has been downvoting your posts? I'd prefer a method other than use of a script, but any information you can share on that is appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Usagiboy7. I've read many of your posts here at duolingo (and occasionally elsewhere) and have enjoyed reading them. You know a lot and are willing to share it in a positive way. You also do a great job of highlighting the many benefits of duolingo and defending it when others attempt to denigrate it. Keep up the good work.

Hi Lisa, there isn't a way to keep others from seeing your activity stream at this time. I haven't read anything along the lines of Duolingo implimenting something like that. Also, there is no way to find out who is down voting. Somedays, it sure would be handy. Wish I had better news for you.

Thank you for your kudos and encouragement. :)

Thanks for the quick reply. It's really too bad that you can't block certain people from seeing your activity stream. That would stop the problem right there. Oh well. For now, I suppose the best thing I can do is just hope that such individuals find better, more important, and positive things to focus their attention on.
