Strengthen button only strengthens early stuff

Hey,

I'm basically at the end of my German tree. I have dealt with all the weird tenses and stuff of German. I could spit out a long sentence no trouble. Every time that I use the strengthen button to go over my tree, it is always simple easy sentences like "Mein Schuh" or "Ich habe ein Buch" (sorry no translations mostly because all those words are close enough to English that you can tell what they mean :þ). No dative case. No genitive case. No past tense. No future tense. No conditionals. No passive tense. Just basic easy stuff. Why is it like this?

I believe it is because it has been longer since you have done those early lessons so they may think that you have not practiced them in so long that you may have forgotten some of them. I recommend strengthening through the individual lessons that you feel you need more practice in.

Don't click 'strengthen skills'; go the individual lesson you want to practise and click 'strengthen' from there. Otherwise it will just proceed very slowly down the tree starting with the earliest lesson that is not gold.

That can take even longer though. Because if you just go on to each lesson, and click, 'Strengthen (lesson)', then it will only strengthen it by one bar at a time, which is quite tedious.

I have the same problem with my Italian tree for Spanish speakers. The algorithm used to work well, showing phrases from the whole tree in my previous trees of French, Portuguese and Esperanto, now it doesn't.

My experience is that strengthens from the easiest part of the tree downwards. It will give you harder sentences, but only if all the stuff prior to that is all gold.

I don't know. Same thing happened to me when I did strengthen skills in my English to French tree. And that tree is completed.

In Turkish, this seems to work fine.

You first get the lessons that are coloured, and it then goes on mixing other lessons, both older and newer. I believe.

It starts from the beginning, because you forget the earliest words first. It works up to the more challenging lessons.

Funny thing is, that few months ago I had quite the opposite problem: regardless the fact that I cannot make a short sentence using simple future tense in French, it still gave me questions with that highly annoying past subjunctive, which is the last line but one in the tree. Now the algorithm seems to have changed, but I don't think it was for better...

same problem here.. looks like the algorithm changed - before i was able to strengthen even few skills at once, and the sentences were challenging enough. Now i get only the very basics like "A boy" - even when trying several times - and it makes no sense to use the button :( please, Duo team, fix it back! it was a good motivation to use this program, even after the language tree is done!
