Why is there an "A" at the beginning? I translated this as: "For they like apples" and it was wrong. It is just "They like apples". What's the point of the "A" then?

"to them they are pleasing the apples" -> "the apples are pleasing to them" -> "they like apples"

paiccono translates as "like oneself" rather than as a conjugation of piace
