I FINISHED MY SPANISH TREE !!!!!!!

It took a very long time to complete and at times I felt like giving up but I didn't and now I finished my tree and I speak pretty good Spanish. I am able to understand Spanish songs, talk to people in Spanish, and I am able to write in Spanish. Sometimes it does get hard when reading, writing, and speaking in Spanish because at the same time you are doing those things you have to remember the grammar rules and you have to remember if you are using the right word, but as long as you practice it you will only get better. I have been wanting to learn Spanish for a long time so I can connect with my culture and now that I am able to speak and understand it, I'm not sure what's next. I plan to take another course on Duolingo but this time I will be taking one for Spanish speakers, to not only learn another language but to also expand my Spanish knowledge.

Aprendimos en la escuela que la palabra está de España. Hay muchos castillos antiguos allá y la region central de España se llama(ba) Castilla. Por eso, el idioma se llama "castellano."

Well done! I am becoming slightly bewildered at the sheer number of irregular verbs; any tips?

https://www.duolingo.com/PuertoRico_7213

Irregular verbs are tricky especially when you are going to use them for past tense. Here is a link to a website showing the most comon regular verbs http://www.linguasorb.com/spanish/verbs/irregular-verbs/. The best thing to do is write them down on flashcards to memorize them. Here is a really useful website for learning spanish grammar they will tell you what you need to know about understanding irregular verbs. http://www.studyspanish.com/lessons/estarirdar.htm

Many of the verb changes are irregular to preserve pronunciation.

This article on Present Tense has a section explaining why some verbs are irregular.
As you learn more words you'll hopefully begin to recognise the patterns and realise a verb is irregular (and in what way) without even having to look at a conjugation chart.

Buen trabajo! Tengo un camino largo a va.

Speaking of which is there a better way to say "I have a long way to go"? :)

https://www.duolingo.com/PuertoRico_7213

There are actually a few ones but another one would be Tengo un largo camino por recorrer

https://www.duolingo.com/El_Mercielago

Perhaps this was a simple error on your part, or perhaps I just haven't fully grasped the subtleties of Spanish grammar yet, but I thought that adjectives always followed the nouns they modified. In this case wouldn't "largo" (long) come after "camino" (way/path)? "Tengo un camnio largo por recorrer."

https://www.duolingo.com/PuertoRico_7213

You are correct but some phrases have adjectives come before the noun, I aslo had trouble with this

https://www.duolingo.com/jacko70

https://www.duolingo.com/PuertoRico_7213

Its almost like how long it took

https://www.duolingo.com/jacko70

I studied Spanish before I joined DL,but I can't start at what I consider my level.I had to start at. square one and work my way through the lessons. For instance is there a way that I can jump to near the end of the lessons, also my lessons dont look anything like the shape of a tree

https://www.duolingo.com/jacko70

Puerto, please bear with me,I'm on level 10,I can't go to level 12,without first reaching level 11 much less go to the last lesson while i'm still on 10.I appreciate that each person's learning capacity is unique, but the rules of DL apply to all equally. For instance can I now go to the last lesson and finish my tree while i'm still on 10?

https://www.duolingo.com/PuertoRico_7213

I don't know how I managed it, each persons' duolingo is unique to their learning skills

https://www.duolingo.com/PuertoRico_7213

Only if you are around that last lesson

https://www.duolingo.com/PuertoRico_7213

If you are on the last lesson and you are level 10 then you can still finish

how could i possibly be around the last lesson if i'm on level 10?

Then you can understand this:

Me alegra que hayas aprendido el idioma y ojala yo complete el mismo proceso con mi inglés, lo de empezar otro curso desde el idioma que aprendiste me pareció una gran idea, también se me había ocurrido y probablemente lo haré. Te recomiendo seguir este camino de aprendizaje con idiomas que descienden del latín y guardan similitud con el español, para que lo refuerces.
