Leaving the practice session should trigger a "Leaving this page" dialog
It has happened to me several times: I'm practicing my skills or learning a new lesson, I go into the discussion thread for that particular sentence and, by accident, click on the name of a user or click my mouse's back button.
This immediately changes the page, lossing all my progress for that lesson. It has even happened after I completed a lesson and was just looking at my last sentence's discussion thread.
I must say that, even though this is just a game at the end of the day, I still felt infuriated. All my precious points lost to a stupid mistake.
This could be easily prevented (I think) by implementing a "Leaving this page" dialog, just like the one GMail offers when you try to leave their page in the middle of writing a draft (see a screenshot: http://tinypic.com/r/2my9gnl/5).
Also, this should also be used when writing messages to the forums, as I have also accidentally pressed ESC while writing this. (Although that's not half as bad, as the text was saved in the box and I simply had to click "New Discussion" to find my text again)
Thanks for the otherwise great service! :)
I can identify. I've had it happen when I was on the last exercise in a lesson once.
I'm positive I've had a dialogue box exactly how you describe when trying to close a lesson that's in progress. However, this is only for closing the tab, and not for clicking the "Home", "Discussion" etc. buttons on the page.
I am in complete agreement. They should allow you to pause the lesson maybe so you can go back to your tree if needed. I have clicked on the discussion page acidently WAY to many times! Great idea.
