Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

Level 7... But..

I've recently made it to level 7. I'm very happy, but I'm concerned that my fluency rate isn't changing. At all. I've been at 19% fluent for over a month now. Can anyone help me?

Well, the fluency shield is in no way accurate, so I wouldn't count on it. :)

Yes, it absolutely isn't!

That happened when I finished my Spanish tree. My fluency shield went down as I progressed further down my tree, even though I was strengthening my skills. :)

Don't pay any attention to your fluency badge. It doesn't mean anything.

EXAMPLE:

Suppose you went to Spain after learning Spanish on Duolingo (your fluency at 55%) for two weeks. When you came back, all of your skills had dropped to 1/5 and your fluency was down to 12%. Yet, when you had gone to Spain, your fluency had actually increased.

MY POINT

Duolingo is just basing your fluency off how well you do your lessons and skills. They don't actually know how fluent you are.

MY ADVICE

If you really want to get your fluency badge up, practice your skills. I find that practicing more helps increase your fluency level. Good luck! :D

Even if you do practice a lot, sometimes the fluency rating doesn't go up anyway! Just don't worry about it :)

I believe that doing lessons and strengthening skills only affect you fluency if they are done on using the web interface. If you do them on the apps it does not affect your fluency. But as the fluency percentage is not very useful (as others have said on this thread) you would be best to ignore the figure until Duo has improved it.

I almost exclusively use the app and my fluency rating does go up and down in accordance with my practice. So the app definetly effects the fluency rating.

Which app is that? I use the iOS app and that does not seem to affect the fluency at all (but it gradually goes down presumably due to time degredation.

I use the app on the android and on a windows based tablet. Both effect my fluency rating.
