6 Holiday Gifts from Duolingo
You asked us for quite a few features this past year... and we listened :)
Duo has wrapped 6 surprise gifts for you this holiday season. Can you guess what they are?
Stay tuned as we unveil each one throughout December!
Blue is for Incubator, obviously - I guess the ability to add English to [language] will be added.
Green is for Android. I hope iOS will have something new, too, as they go hand in hand now, both iOS and Android apps are approximately the same.
Red is for lingots. New stuff to shop for? That's cool!
Dark-green for some added settings... could it be customized practice?!
I fail to guess what grey is for... and yellow with stars - maybe this is for new web version design that has been mentioned a few times?
Anyway, I'm excited :-)
I thought the grey one was toiletpaper, thank you for letting me un-see it :)
I was thinking it looked like a whistle too until someone did something in Immersion and their puzzle piece, while not gray, had the same shape. hrm... but, with the gray off color, it's more likely a whistle.
Indeed, I think it is safe to assume that it may be some form of game/competition. Whistles are generally associated with competitions involving more than one person. So I'm 99% certain it is the hack-a-thon multiplayer timed practice or something related to it.
I had completely forgotten about the multiplayer. I really want to play with other people! :O
It would be so much fun if we were able to play against other people. I hope that is what it is.
I think that the dark green is the new interface that Duolingo will be implementing ;)
I didn't think about them at first, but then I noticed the blue Incubator eggs :-)
Stars might represent the score of your certificates on your profile.
Definitely not. I don't think they have any intention of making that possible.
Maybe the dark-green settings box will solve the language direction issue, where you have to go to the settings each time you want to use a different base language? :D Would be a good preparation for all those upcoming incubator courses :D
Grey is for review, the ability to review our answers in timed practice.
If blue is English to [language] in the incubator...I hope it's opened first! :D I can't wait!! Who says growing up means Christmas has to be boring, eh?
Customized practices? That would be awesome!! I hope you got that one right! :)
Maybe stars mean new rewards... and grey... I see a kind of cups on the box... I don't know.
Oh yes, whistles! I see them now! LOL! For sure they are related to competition!
where are these colors from?! everyone says something about colors! i dont see any!
Not sure if the blue is for English -> [language]. If it's about incubator (very likely to be) then it could be, according to the email I received, also for [One of the 6 already existing non-English languages] -> [One of the 6 already existing non-English languages]. :)
Spanish -> French soon in the Incubator! :) :)
Dark-green: maybe the possibility to set the interface in the language you want (not only English when you learn from English, French when you learn (English) from French, Spanish when you learn (English) from Spanish, etc.)
Woah! Gifts from Duolingo? As if what you have done so far wasn't enough! Another example of Duolingo being over the top. You guys are awesome! :)
Nuts! Shaking the devices that I use with Duolingo doesn't provide any additional clues.
My guesses are:
- grey box: redesign of discussion area and/or a way for us to track our comments
- light green: android reporting facility and/or sentence discussions
- blue: new incubator courses
- yellow: review system from hackathon
- red: some new way to spend lingots
- dark green: pop up dialog preventing us from accidentally leaving the practice session
Thanks Duo! I think the dark green will come first, because it is already half open.
I can promise you THEY WILL NOT ADD NEW (finished) LANGUAGES! All languages are now added through the incubator. I am hoping for the hackathon projects to be implemented.
What's "hackathon"? I just started Duolingo recently and I don't know much about it yet.
(Again,) Use the search-engine on the discussion page.
Blue= language incubator-new languages, and one can contribute if he/she is bilingual.
The dark-green is probably the first one to be released (it's open).
The size probably matter, so the big red gift must be the big changement; but the blue one is suspicious... It can be the full incubator— every languages to every languages, as they said in the past. There are few people working to add languages for now, so this is perhaps a possibility to add more people, hence the small box is justified?
Well, the one on top is the open one, and probably released first. Maybe how high the boxes are indicates the order released, from top to bottom.
Oh! thank you! I'm expecting some pictures in the sentences which help us to remember the vocabulary!
I hope you're right ... sometimes I get things wrong because the voice synthesis is hard to hear. :-)
to fix android app? Please do that as gift. I can not use android app well.
The app on Android has updated today with a completely new design and interface, maybe the same will happen to the main website, much prefer the new layout that's on the app
6 days and we will find out the first hidden suprize! I hope the red one is lingots, I can't guess the rest thought!
Could the Yellow Stars represent 'Favoriting' lessons? Anyway...thank you, DuoLingo! Joyeux Noël. :-)
I have no idea what they actually are- but I would be really, really, happy if they implemented the hack-a-thon projects. Preferably the 'chat' function where you can chat with Duolingo in the language you're learning. Maybe you can purchase it with lingots? Duolingo is awesome but I would love the chat as it would give me more practice. Thank you Duolingo for all you've given!
This is SO cool!!!! I am wondering what the yellow one stands for! Hmmmmmmmm?!?
Actually the green one is about android. red is the biggest so it can be about lingots :) Blue box's cover design looks like an egg maybe it can be a new language:DP no more forecast :D
I hope they improve the android app to a more desktop-like, even though I love the new android interface. And we need more things in the store.
I;m glad it is only two more days for the first one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D
I think going by the first gift they unwrapped, this is going from the closest present to the furthest away. So the next one is likely the android gift, and then the stars for the webapp, then something for incubator, lingots, and lastly the "gears of war".
This gear is interesting, it could be extra functionality or perhaps the much asked "API", though I doubt it. It is most likely some new feature/setting for the webapp, especially because it seems to have the smallest box, and the lingot looking thing has the biggest one.
Also, I think that given that there are 6 presents and only 2 weeks left this month, there must be 3 on average three presents per week.
