Just keep trying, language learning takes perseverance but is well worth it. (Duolingo can get more challenging the more advanced you get so enjoy the simplicity of level 4 while you still have it) Also always pay attention to grammar structure in sentences, and accents. It really helps to read the articles about each exercise at the bottom of each page and to look at discussions about answers to drills. My advice is to try writing and speaking the language, even if you only know a few short phrases like "obrigada" or "tchau", you are getting engaged in your learning and just think, the more learning and practice the broader your vocabulary will be. Keep at it, you will learn and be very proud when you do :) Happy Language Learning
This is a very good point, as I went through a bit of a phase where I felt like the Portuguese course wasn't helping me very much, like I wasn't really learning much, until I read a short book in the language. I was proud of myself, but more importantly I realized that you know more than you think, just be sure to keep up the practicing:)
I can relate. I'm a Portuguese speaker learning Spanish (among other courses) , but I can't memorize Spanish words, they simply don't stick into my mind. However, I won't give up, because, as someone already pointed out, learning a language takes perseverance (and time!) . Não desista (don't give up) ;).
