Finished my first Duolingo tree - Swedish - and also reached a 100 day streak! Skål!
As the topic says, I finally completed the tree today after about 4 months of pretty consistent, but slow progress. On the whole, I thought the course was great - and appreciated how so many of the sentences were either very creative or somewhat provocative, given current socio-cultural norms. Seems you Swedes are just avant-garde like that.
When I read or listen to Swedish language media nowadays, I still don't understand what's going on - but I DO know that with sufficient exposure and semi-comprehensible input, the phrases and sentences will begin to make a lot more sense. And that's because the necessary foundations in the language have been laid by this course: it's only a matter of time before the walls, roof, furnishing and paintwork are all completed!
Tack så mycket to the English-Swedish team and, of course, to the folks at Duolingo!
I really like your house analogy--Duolingo helps you start construction of your language house, and continuing to work on it and improve your comprehension will complete the house's frame. Once you've done that, you will start improving your vocabulary (adding furniture) and ironing out minute mistakes (painting and maybe having an interior decorator ^_^).
Anyway, well done on your tree!
Man får väl ta och gratulera då.
Curious question: How well are you able to understand speech from natives? In person or on TV. I wonder because I find it really hard to understand native spaniards at level 8.
