Top new food words for 2015

For this year 2015, there have been many new food words added to our dictionaries and language, English. Some of the top food words are,Piecaken, Cookie Butter, Climatarian, and Cuisinomane etc. etc. The word Mayo though commonly used in the English language has just been officially added to the dictionaries this year.

Have you ever been irritated or angry because you're so hungry? There is a word for that, officially known as hangry. This state of being is commonly known of, but would you believe it? It used to be known as having low blood sugar!

This man is obviously hangry! {@style=background-image: -webkit-gradient( linear, left top, right top, color-stop(0, #f22), color-stop(0.15, #f2f), color-stop(0.3, #22f), color-stop(0.45, #2ff), color-stop(0.6, #2f2),color-stop(0.75, #2f2), color-stop(0.9, #ff2), color-stop(1, #f22) );background-image: gradient( linear, left top, right top, color-stop(0, #f22), color-stop(0.15, #f2f), color-stop(0.3, #22f), color-stop(0.45, #2ff), color-stop(0.6, #2f2),color-stop(0.75, #2f2), color-stop(0.9, #ff2), color-stop(1, #f22) );color:transparent;-webkit-background-clip: text;background-clip: text;}

If you just love cats so much and are longing to be in the company of one, (there might be something wrong with you) why not eat at a Cat Cafe?

Cat Cafe in Ljubljana. {@style=background-image: -webkit-gradient( linear, left top, right top, color-stop(0, #f22), color-stop(0.15, #f2f), color-stop(0.3, #22f), color-stop(0.45, #2ff), color-stop(0.6, #2f2),color-stop(0.75, #2f2), color-stop(0.9, #ff2), color-stop(1, #f22) );background-image: gradient( linear, left top, right top, color-stop(0, #f22), color-stop(0.15, #f2f), color-stop(0.3, #22f), color-stop(0.45, #2ff), color-stop(0.6, #2f2),color-stop(0.75, #2f2), color-stop(0.9, #ff2), color-stop(1, #f22) );color:transparent;-webkit-background-clip: text;background-clip: text;}

I think Mayo has mostly been used for challenges, like, "The Smoothie Challenge", and the Tonight Show. It's mostly considered something disgusting, and it's short for Mayonnaise, I think...

Yes it has. Many people, including myself abbreviate the word mayonnaise into Mayo.

"Mayo" is in my Merriam-Webster's Dictionary (published 2008). It's the entry before "mayonnaise."

Well yes, there are different meanings for the word Mayo. But as for the food word, it's been officially made a word this year. Not an abbreviation.

My dictionary doesn't list any other meanings for "mayo" other than "mayonnaise." My M-W app also says "mayo" means "mayonnaise" and that "mayo" has been in use (at least in the U.S.) since 1960. So you're saying that now it's a word in it's own right and not an abbreviation. Soon I will see Hellman's Mayo! ;-) What the heck is "cookie butter"? I'm a baker and I've never heard that one.

Haha, I'm not really sure myself what cookie butter is. I just saw somewhere cookie butter and looked it up. Here's the definition of cookie butter. :)

Cookie Butter (n.) A sweet spread of pulverised cookies mixed with butter, condensed milk and peanut butter, or another soft ingredient. Cookie butter was first made in Belgium and the Netherlands with the locally popular spice cookies, speculoos. (A popular childhood snack there is white bread spread with butter and sprinkled with crushed cookies, or chocolate sprinkles.) In the United States, recipes have proliferated for butters made from Oreos, graham crackers and Thin Mints.

And here's a recipe, just in case you plan on baking cookie butter cookies. ;)

Interesting! I'd heard of cat cafes before but thought they only existed in Asia (where they originated). Cookie butter sounds so tasty! I looked at it on Google Images and it comes in a jar and can have different flavours.
