Why isn't the 're' in Regering not pronounced the same as that is Regen?

There's a different emphasis: the emphasis in 'regen' is on the first syllable, while in 'regering' it is on the second one. An 'e' with emphasis is longer, while an 'e' without emphasis sounds shorter, more like an 'uh' sound.

I'm curious why the translation 'the Netherland's government' is incorrect... The people only refer to their country/possessive as Dutch? (Noticed this in a couple other questions but forgot to ask).

The country is referred to in English as the Netherlands, so the possessive would be either Netherlands' or Netherlands's.
