Anyone Interested in a Day 60(-ish) "Dinner Party" over Skype to Practice Russian?
This is inspired by the BuzzFeed video about Duolingo. If you haven't seen it, several people started using DL to learn French and on the 60th day they had a dinner party with French native speakers to see how much they learned. Most of them didn't take language learning too seriously so it didn't go too well but I thought the idea sounded fun, especially for those of us who are more realistic in our studies. And since Russian was released less than 2 month ago it would be a great language to follow BuzzFeed's idea.
So, are there any Russian learners and native speakers who would like to join me sometime around January 1th-10th (I started later) to have a Russian conversation? Does anyone have any suggesting? Because I'm just throwing ideas out there but what ever will get me practicing is a good thing :)
Great idea - I was just thinking about asking something like this. I'm much newer than you are, but if this goes well, I'd love to have an opportunity to actually speak with other Duolingo users, as opposed to just testing/canned lessons (not to downplay them any).
What a great idea! If you don't mind someone attending thats still struggling to get to grips with Russian, and is likely to make lots of silly mistakes, then I'd like to send my RSVP acceptance to join your dinner party.
"someone attending thats still struggling to get to grips with Russian, and is likely to make lots of silly mistakes" if you replace "likely" is "absolutely will" that would definitely describe me :) We've gotta start somewhere!
I'm interesting in joining (I'm a native speaker), but this depends on the time when you'll hold the event.
I hope we can find a time that will work for everyone. I know it might be tricky with most of the learners being in drastically different time zones from the native speakers.
Well that's why it's in quotes, I wasn't quite sure what to call it. But I food is a pretty good topic of dissection as food words are learned low on the tree.
Oh, over Skype, I see. I don't know if I'll participate or not, but this is a good idea.
Can a Frenchie join ? I will make lots of mistakes in both Russian and English, but I have the French accent romantique x'D
I'm in for your project, it sounds really good :)
Да, это хорошая идея! Пожалуйста, пригласите меня на ужин, и скажите мне, если есть вегетарианские блюда.
I'm not sure I'm quite ready for this yet, but echoing JonGSonOfTheDee's sentiments, do let me know how this goes and if you plan on organising any more for the future.
