Just curious since it would make finding suitable courses outside of Duolingo easier to find ;)

That's not an accurate estimate, though a good one to compare to other courses. If you only count real words (minus the forms, minus the reintroduction of a word in a new meaning or with a new use), it is fewer than that. The count is bigger than 1500, though.

If you want to compare it to other courses, the English tree introduces about 1950 lexemes in its lessons, though the word count is 1397. The English tree, however, is rather modest.

You could try https://babadum.com it teaches a lot of words that are not on Duolingo. Also, memrise has a course that teaches you the first 10,000 words.

Do you know every single English word? (I don't think so. :p) With this course you'll have a solid basis to start with. Go for it! :)

Exactly right. It will be enough to get people off to a flying start, and then they can run with it.

It is actually quite a lot compared to the other languages. When i finished the spanish tree, it only taught around 1600 words. Though, i think they have updated it since then.

Hi! I'm not sure how many words it teaches, but you could never learn the whole language as it is always evolving. But, learning all the words that Duolingo has to offer (probably about 10,000) would give you a solid basis and a great start. Contact me for further help. Good luck with your studies! :)

Most courses have around 2000 "words" in their lessons, maybe closer to 3000 for bigger trees. Which means that the actual number of words is about 1500-2500.
