There's a sign of life in Yiddish!

One of Yiddish's contributors, skilja (https://www.duolingo.com/skilja), has a two day streak and learned a Polish skill seven hours ago from when this was posted!

Yiddish is interesting. I speak German, and when I visit the homes of Jewish friends who speak Yiddish with their grandparents, I can understand about 80% of conversation without too much effort. If they slow down, I can understand probably over 90%.

But I can't read it, as I don't know the Hebrew alphabet.

If I learn Hebrew alphabet first, and then take the Yiddish placement test, I wonder how much of the tree I can clear...

I am also interested to learn Hebrew, although I know absolutely zero so far!!

That doesn't mean the person is still interested in Yiddish though. I doubt Yiddish will make it.

Thankfully Klingon just got 1% last week so there's still hope there.

It's possible. I just posted the persons stream asking whether or not they are still working on it.

You learn something new every day. I had always assumed Yiddish used the Roman alphabet. How similar is it to Dutch ?

Well, it often does use the Roman alphabet, but as I understand it, "officially" it's written in Hebrew letters.

Not particularly close to Dutch. It's like old German mixed with Hebrew and Russian words. To me it sounds vaguely similar to southern German/Austrian dialects. A bit like Viennese dialect. But maybe that's because the speakers I know were from Germany anyway.

This doesn't mean much. If they could go back to posting updates that would be nice, but I (and most likely a lot of other people) are so fed up with the team that DL should just intervene and give the job to someone else.
