Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

It's the holidays!

Making it very difficult for me to stay focused and on my daily routines. Unfortunately I lost my streak because of it. However, I am still trying each day to keep up with my studies and have a set plan for 2016! I am planning to finish my French tree by May of 2016. I will push myself to make my daily goals until then. I also plan to keep my Spanish lessons up to speed so I won't lose knowledge there. I think it's important to make a plan and goal to reach when learning a language. Best of luck to all!

What are your 2016 goals?

Anyone else struggling with focus and time around the holidays?

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! :) :)

My goals for 2016 are trying to finish the French tree too, I hope to be done at least in the first quarter of next year. I am also going to read more books in French and will try to talk more with my friends from France to get more practice. After that I will probably spent time improving my extremely rusty German, and probably try to progress in the Russian or Ukrainian tree too.

As for the focus problem... I just keep the daily xp at 10, which is pretty much the lowest it can get. Practicing every day is good when you're learning a language, but sometimes when you're busy with other stuff it's good to be done with practicing once. Same goes for the holidays, if I'm motivated I will get 200 xp on some days, if I don't really feel like practicing I won't go further than 10 xp.

Good luck studying French and Spanish both though, the languages are rather close so that might cause some mix-ups in your head. And happy holidays! :)

the 10xp is a great idea, mine is at 30 now and can sometimes seem too much so I put it off. I will try that as well, thanks for the idea! :)

French and Spanish have been difficult for that reason, but also sometimes very helpful. It's a challenge non the less.

Good luck for 2016! Keep in touch and have a great Christmas and New Year :)

I have lots of free time as it is the holidays right now (5 weeks off school!) although I am struggling with motivation as I went on holidays and so my trees have decayed. A lot. So right now I am just doing lots of strengthening but I plan to have my trees somewhat gold and stable by the New Year and then I'll spend a month learning lots of new skills and hopefully finishing a tree or two before heading back to school. My 2016 goals include finishing all of the trees I am currently learning and to make them all gold.

I usually use DL on my computer, but now at night I've found if I use my phone app before I go to sleep (if I have trouble sleeping) it is keeping me up to speed. Maybe that will help you!

Good luck with you 2016 goal! Sounds challenging but definitely something you can do :) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !

No difficulty staying focused. Christmas is not my favourite time of year but I do have plenty of free time, making it possible to get about 100 XP a day. My language goals for 2016 are to continue with French until the beginning of February when I have a short holiday in Toulon, and then start studying Spanish, which I know a little of, until my holiday in Spain at the beginning of July. After that it will be just keeping my trees in order until I have next made arrangements to visit either Spain, France or Greece. I might consider doing a Spanish course at an adult education centre, but it depends on term dates.
