I'd love to learn it too, I'm using other apps and websites but Duolingo would be the perfect device. But there's no news yet, it's a shame.

Check this thread though, we need to get the attention of the staff !

i suggest you learn dutch in the meantime.. after finishing the tree (and even before) you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much afrikaans you understand.. and after that it'll be very easy to continue learning afrikaans..by reading or other ways.

I fear it might be difficult though to have an afrikaans accent when i already know how to speak dutch. i love how the accent sounds when people speak it, it sounds very wild and expressive, do you think it will be a problem for me though?

Doubt you'll have a problem with that.. I don't think duo is good for learning how to speak with the correct accent.. It's not even a human voice, and anyways in any language it takes lots of practice to speak without accent.. So knowing one only helps learning a another one..

Anyways what i meant was to use duo for learning a big vocabulary, which will help you in understanding afrikaans in stead of starting from zero..(since you want to use dou, and there's no Afrikaans course at the moment) After that you can focus on learning only Afrikaans (speaking with accent or whatever) but it'll be much easier..

For example i haven't spent 1 minute learning Afrikaans but the words are so similar that i understand a lot. Anyways. You can start and see how it goes, if you see that it's helping you towards your goal continue, if not, stop.

I wanna learn Afrikaans, also. Since it's not available yet on Duo. I decided to just learn Dutch. I am really enjoying Dutch. So, when Afrikaans (if it does) become released. I should be able to pick it up easily.

dutch is very similar to afrikaans as they are both west germanic languages so knowing dutch could be useful.
