I read somewhere on the forum that the US Peace Corp had a hand in creating the Ukrainian and Swahili courses for English speakers, and that both Celtic languages (Irish and Welsh) are supported by their respective governments.

Is this true?

If so, people that want the less spoken languages of Europe such as Maltese or Luxembourgish may wish to reach out to them for assistance in building a course.

The Cherokee nation is also trying to get a Cherokee course built. I hope it happens.

I can confirm that the Peace Corp has been involved with creating the Ukrainian course, but I don't know about the other courses.

Two of the Swahili course mods are with the Peace Corps. I'm not sure about the other ones.

At least one or two of the Guarani team members are definitely Peace Corps folk. I have no problem with this... The projects supported by the Peace Corps seem to get built quickly!

On a related note, although not Goverment or NGO...

...I wonder to what extent Paramount Pictures are involved in the Klingon project?

Specifically because Paramount are known for being somewhat controlling of what fans can do with the Klingon language. They like the idea of people taking an interest or learning/using it, but if anyone opens a project that they object to, they have in the past decided to "release the Harpies of Intellectual Property Law" (a quote from someone in the industry).

So it seems like a Duolingo course is something Paramount would have to have some ownership of before they would agree to it existing.

But conversely, is it likely or possible they might have approached Duolingo with some $$, with hopes to have the course open in time for a publicity stunt connected to the release of the next Star Trek reboot film in mid-2016?
