Does Duo release new features?

Hi, I constantly see here new threads where people suggest ideas/requests for Duo (I'm talking about requests that require software development, not new courses).. I have some suggestions for new features myself, but since I started using Duo, I don't remember seeing anything change.. has anyone else noticed any of the requests being answered? Or is it a waste of time making requests?

Things do change, although whether in response to individual requests is debatable. There is no direct suggestions forum but putting your ideas in the Duolingo forum may get noticed. Any improvements are usually tested using an A/B test to see if they improve the learning process before they are released to everyone.

what about features that have nothing to do with the learning process? like more things in the duo store? people ask and ask and nothing.. or something more useful, like an easy way to switch between courses with different origin language? I know there are some extensions for that.. but still it's not part of the official site/app

Apparently the tech team is swamped right now, which might be part of it. Maybe once they don't have as much to do they'll do some of these things.

I think it would help if we have a separate "Ideas and Suggestions" forum. It would help people to take a look at the various suggestions, allow Duo to manage them, and vote for the ones they would most like implemented. Duo could officially let people know they would not implement something and why as well (e.g. chat system etc.) I notice some common suggestions come up almost every week.

I would also have liked the official Duo team to respond to some of the popular suggestions. I have myself made one regarding adding Situational Conversations (https://www.duolingo.com/comment/12403125), which I think would further the learning process. Receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from the learners but no word from the platform creators is a bit disheartening, since the suggestion made would benefit both. If people feel their thoughts would fall on deaf ears, they would also be less likely to want to stay and contribute creatively.

As a software developer myself, I do however understand about being swamped with behind the scenes, technical work. Just wish they had someone to also manage things on the public/visible side of the platform.

Every new idea takes resources, time, money. Just because we think something will further the learning process does not mean Duo thinks it is cost effective, and it is their business. Apparently, they don't think it is cost effective to have a person respond to every suggestion, and that makes sense to me. Duo has tens of millions of users and gets many, many, many suggestions. If people don't do a search and see that their earthshaking new idea has been brought up many times before, why would people take note of a response from Duo why an idea has, or has not, been implemented?

You are right, I forgot that this whole thing is given to us for free and even without ads. Good reminder to be grateful for what we already have, which is pretty amazing!

I`ve been here almost two years and made many suggestions. Nothing has been changed so I have to say it is a waste of time. I would be happy if they used the same format and just increased the exercises and vocabulary but apparently even that is too much to ask.

I have been here more than two years and a few of my suggestions were implemented. So I have to say it is not a waste of time.
