  • Isso é um ovo = that is an egg

I would never translate "isso" as "that". I would translate as below:

Isso/esse = This

Aquilo/aquele = That

This seems way more natural to me.

  • Isto = this = close to the speaker
  • Isso = that = close to the listener
  • Aquilo = that = away from both.

In Brazil only, "isto" and "isso" have almost lost their distinction.
