"Following" languages in the incubator

Is there any way we could be able to follow new language courses that we might be interested in on the incubator so we can be updated on its status (eg goes into stage 2) or with an update if one comes out for it without having to check back manually?

I think Luis said they wanted to do something like this, I just don't think they've gotten around to it.

Also is anyone else checking it obsessively because English for Russian speakers is like THIS CLOSE TO BEING DONE BUT IT'S NOT QUITE THERE YET.

It will be great when the English for Russian is complete - hopefully that means they'll start the Russian to English ASAP!

I'm hoping one of the presents the Duo staff is giving us is opening up the incubator to courses learning new languages, at which point I can imagine they must have contributors willing to work on that course. I'm just too excited. XD

It's the first thing I do, when I open Duolingo...

I NEED THIS.

Edit: But then I got really disappointed, because it's English for Romanian speakers...

Well, the tools for a language to English will probably be unveiled with the other Christmas gifts, so it's not too far off! :)

I'm thinking that doing the Romanian to English (or Russian to English) ought to be fairly useful for learning from English as well.

I would think that it may give you an idea, but I find it doubtful that it would really help that much. Since it's assumed you know Russian grammar, you'd have to completely guess on conjugations, word order, and other features of the language. That, and there would be a lot of parts that just would be useless, such as the listening comprehension of English.

agreed, hence the "fairly useful", as opposed to something stronger. I'm wondering how the Russian alphabet is going to work. Very excited about it!

The incubator ppl usually announce milestones (25%, 50%, etc) on the main discussion board. If something as significant as a course moving onto beta happens I'm sure it would be pretty difficult to miss.

I've just had another thought on this. When they eventually open it up to all languages, it'll be a pain to search through the 40+ language courses to find the one that you are interested in just to check on it and find that there isn't a new public update.

You could just find it once and bookmark the link? I have the link to the incubator bookmarked because I check it about three times a day.

I would like to see this... I'm waiting for the "Portuguese for Spanish speakers" and I find myself looking at the list once a week. Learning Portuguese via English being Galician is extremely painful btw.

The PT->ES course just added some moderators so I'm sure it'll start progressing quicker. They've already got the interface translated, so that's about a quarter of the work already done! :)

Yes, something that shows up on your home page, like below your friend's stats would be useful. :)

Yup, I was looking everywhere on the incubator for some sort of 'follow' feature. I guess it will be added eventually, it would be pretty useful.
