All skills unlocked but not completed
So, I was just playing around a few minutes ago and discovered something interesting.
I was bored and added a new language: Irish. I wondered if something I had been pondering for a while would work. I scrolled down to the very bottom of the tree and looked at the last skill--- Business.
I typed in "https://www.duolingo.com/skill/ga/Business/5" as a web address.
I did the lesson, and now all of the skills on the Irish tree are unlocked but not completed. I can start from the last skill and work my way up instead of the other way around. It also gave me lingots for "finishing" the skill.
If you start at the back, you'll have a much harder time understanding all the grammar rules and vocabulary in the earlier skills.
And it's more difficult to track progress (especially once skills start losing colour). One of the reasons why folks prefer to reset their trees and start from the beginning again instead of reworking on a fully available tree.
Hi Erica, would you move this to the Troubleshooting forum for me? I don't know if it's something that is already known about or not.
No, thank you! I'm currently checking with AlexInIreland to see if this is a known glitch or not.
I don't think it is a glitch because it is a real link. A block cannot be put on it because eventually someone will truly reach there, so it can't be handled. But I do think it's a cool hidden Easter egg :D
dunno... It was fine to me! :/ I just started trying all sorts of different languages and it was pretty smooth. I'll check back on Irish though, just to make sure. :)
This is interesting, Erica thanks a lot for sharing us your discovery.
Wow! That is a very interesting glitch that many people could use to their advantage. Good eye for finding it!
How could people use it to their advantage? And even if they do, too bad for wanting to cheat instead of learn. Humph.
Well, the Duolingo teaching system is meant to be gradual and steady. If people learn they can just do the short skills first and the long ones later, the whole system will collapse.
If they want to do that it should be their own choice. We shoudn't judge them. Just like drugs, if there is a person smoking, we could talk about how they will die soon, but it's their own choice to learn or not. Right? :/
Hi Erica! I found out that for some strange reason only the link in your discussion post works, but none of the other links (not even the Esperanto one I came up with!) I guess it's unique to the Irish tree
You can only do it if you're learning the language that's in the link. Do you get that, or do I still need to explain some more? :)
Hm. Let me try adding Esperanto and then trying the link... hold on a moment...
It showed me a picture of a church! I guess it's not just an Irish problem. :P
