Fun fact! It's ultimately derived from Latin feniculum, but it's been modified by folk etymology so that culum became kål - the Swedish word for "cabbage". :)

another fun fact! in old english finule is one of the nine plants invoked in the pagan Anglo-Saxon Nine Herbs Charm, recorded in the 10th century.
