At my school, there's a kid from Sweden, and he's one of my closest friends(sadly, he has to go home after this school year), so one day, he invited my family over for dinner, and they had fennel as one of the vegetables, and so we've bought it at the store semi-frequently after that, because we all liked it so much. :)

I saw some fennel in a vegetable store and had always wanted to try it. I saw an older couple carrying some as they were shopping, so I asked them how to prepare it. I was surprised to hear "we eat it raw". So I tried it and also liked it. It is a little like celery with mild licorice flavor and not as stringy as celery. How did your Swedish friend eat it?

This is so neat! I used to live in Sweden for half my life. I'm moving back there soon. Even though I already know Swedish, Duolingo helps me refresh my language (though I've only had this account for 2 days). Duktigt jobbat!

I have never ever heard the expression "oxveckor" nor "papperstiger"... "ballongbåge" was new as well, but that one was easier to figure out. Are these "words of the week" found in SAOL? How do you come up with them? :P

I love this idea! I'm learning Swedish on this website at the moment and this will probably come in quite useful.
