Wrong time

Where I can set my local time? I moved from east to west a mouth ago, and now my time is 23:22, but previously was 0:22. My streak was reset to 1 day and I lost my wager :((

You can't set your local time right now. This is unfortunately why you may have lost your streak. We base the time cut off on the time zone you originally signed up for your account with. I am going to reset this for you since you did not know :)

I made my account in the timezone I'm currently in, and yet, it still resets at 2pm.

I really wish you would let us change the time reset. I would make it 5 or 6 am because I work nights and I just laid down to do Duolingo but I already lost my wager (again!). It is very disappointing and sometimes I just don't use it because it resets my streak.

They will never change it, they lost the source code and killed the programmers

August 24, 2016

Now I could be wrong… But doesn't the server off of the source code?

August 24, 2016

No, the server must run some code ... and the programmers are lying on the floor, severely beaten by sadistic aliens

Hi! can you reset mine too? I neew it with argentinan time (GMT -3). Thanks in advance!

Hi Kristine, can you, or someone else with the ability, please change my time zone to Pacific? Duolingo has me on Eastern which means I constantly drop streaks because I miss my 9 PM cutoff. I've used the app on my phone (Windows Phone 8.1) and it has not changed it. I also used it in the Mountain time zone a couple months ago and that also did not change my cutoff.

I'm not sure what triggered it to be EST; the only thing that I can think of is that I might have installed it on my phone on a stopover on the east coast. Other than that I've never used Duolingo in the eastern time zone. It's very frustrating, demotivating, and hard to understand why the system doesn't base time zones on IP ranges or something similar.

Thank you.

Me too! Pacific please

Hello, I lost my 105 day streak because I was travelling in a different time zone than the one I made my account on. I made the account in U.S. mountain time and traveled to Germany (Central European Timezone). I would love to ave my streak reset so that I can continue to enjoy getting my daily streak each and everyday.
Thank you

Thank you

December 14, 2013

It seems you didn't :(, I give you a lingot for that

December 28, 2013

I gave you another lingot, I would prefer the problem solved. I'm patient :D

February 15, 2014

This just happened to me, last night. I assumed Duolingo used the same time zone as my phone, since that seemed logical. I did my lessons last night at 11pm, and this morning my Spanish and Italian streaks reset.

My overall streak did not because I had a streak freeze from the lingot store, but it did not freeze the individual languages.

I hope Duo can do "smart" time zones soon (or let us set our own) because it's disheartening to lose the individual language streaks when you work so hard to make time for it every day!

February 15, 2014

It's hard to understand why there isn't a timezone setting that you can change once in a week, let's say (to protect from abuses)

February 15, 2014

I think they should just require you to do 5 extra lessons to keep your streak if you change it. Change it 50 times a day if you want, you just have to do 5 extra lessons each time.

August 24, 2016

I also think it seems like this won't be changed. It's really unfair when the time zone resets and you're penalized even though you've logged in on time. At least reading the funny commentary on here has cheered me up a bit :) I think I'll stop focusing on streaks from now on. It puts on too much pressure. I can just focus on progress instead. On the other hand, it will be harder to be motivated to stay consistent. That's their fault for designing the system this way though!

August 30, 2016

I realize that I'm super late to the discussion, but mine is an hour ahead of me despite not leaving my timezone.

December 4, 2014

Lucky! I want it to be about 6 hours ahead! I often work nights all the way to sunrise. Sometimes I don't have a chance to use Duolingo until like 2 AM.

August 31, 2016

Same problem here! Doulingo started to reset at 23:00 out of the blue although i'd signed up in the same timezone. Any way to reset?

August 31, 2016

There was someone in a previous discussion who said that the website will change the time automatically after spending some time in a different time zone. I am not sure if that is correct though as my deadline didn't seem to change after spending a couple of months in another region. It isn't that much of an issue to me but I understand that it can be discouraging for people who enjoy improving their streak.

December 14, 2013

Any update to this policy? Moved to Australia from the States, and now my streak resets mid day. It's kind of irritating that it doesn't learn your location. Does it do so with continued use in a new location?

January 21, 2015

Yeah, I'd be interested in knowing if this policy will ever change - I moved nine time zones west several months ago (for the long term)), and so now my daily XP and streaks reset at 3pm my time which is kind of a pain. If not, is there any way you can ask to have it personally reset?

June 1, 2015

I had the opposite problem. I moved to a time zone 7 hours ahead and I was ok keeping it that way. Duolingo stayed in the old timezone for a few days. However, today it reset without telling me and I lost my 411 day streak! I thought I had 7 hours still left to complete the lesson. Can someone reinstate my streak? I worked so hard to keep that up ),:

August 22, 2016

I have lost my streak so many times because of the stupid timezone issue. I really don't like it and it is very discouraging.

August 24, 2016

Very discouraging! All the days I diligently completed my lesson in time, all gone! And it's not even fair. This was the first time it happened to me so it was a complete surprise. I wish it had happened after a 30 or 40 day streak, but 411! :(
