When practicing German and French I find difficult remembering the gender of certain nouns and it would be very helpful if such nouns would be showed in a different color, for example, blue for masculine, pink for feminine and yellow for neuter. That also would be helpful for Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

Maybe it's because gender is often more obvious in Spanish, but I would find that more useful for word types (noun/verb/article etc). It could be part of the hover hints, since having all the sentences coloured would get annoying, though it would be easy to disable.

Edit:should have been easy rather than 'hard to disable'.

I agree with you that the DL experience would be improved with more reinforcement of the grammatical genders. :) I prefer the grey block. I wish it would pop up more than just once or twice. I personally find pink and blue very distasteful and deleted the app when they added it. Some people find it useful though. I would prefer, if it had to be color coded, to let those of us from other cultures color code our own.

And, with DL looking to add more courses, recall that some languages have 25 genders, though more of them are in the 5 gender range. (I am very excited about the potential of the Incubator!! :D)

Yes, please. Wouldn't have pink and blue though since so many words have no relation to 'masculine' or 'feminine'. I advise students to just think of them as categories of nouns. They could just as easily be A,B and C so there's no confusion as to why e.g. 'girl' is neuter or 'chair' is feminine. The color code would be a great teaching aid. I look forward to it.

Excellent idea ! I am struggling a bit with German nouns as neuter complicates things and there are many words, obviously, having different genders than in French, Spanish, Italian or Polish. Colors would help!
