First of all, if you're a beginner, I'd advise you to try Extr@ which is aimed at learners. The speed is quite slow so you can better focus on the words.

Now, as for French TV shows... Fais pas ci, fais pas ça and Scènes de ménages are current, humoristic shows, quite short.
Kaamelott has to be watched, although I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner, since it uses a lot of slang.
Plus belle la vie is a soap, pretty bad in my opinion, but the advantage of soaps is that you always get the same characters, cliché situations...and the vocabulary that goes with it. And you have plenty of episodes to watch with this one!

Tunnel is good, it's the French/British adaptation of Bron/Broen, the Swedish/Danish thriller known as The Bridge in English. You have both French and English spoken in that one, and I found the cultural differences between both countries quite well shown.

Un village français is apparently good, although I haven't watched it. It's a historical series about a village during WW2 if I'm not mistaken.

I only gave you those that could teach you something or help you learn, but if you want anything else, don't hesitate to ask!

Try Extra on youtube! It's made for beginners so they speak more slowly and don't use an incredibly advanced vocabulary.

I like a very old one "le cœur a ses raisons", it's from Quebec and is one of the funniest shows I know but very "special" as well

Caillou is best for beginners, I know it's a children's show but it's great for basics. If it doesn't air in French in your country there is a youtube channel ( Caillou en français) Mouk is also very interesting, again it is a children's show, but they go exploring to all different parts of the world so it helps you to learn about different cultures in French. There is also a youtube channel for that show. A great way to improve is to watch Disney movies in French, since most people have already seen them in their native language it's easy to pick up vocabulary and sentence structure while still understanding the plot.

Simple things like getting a box set that you like and know well and listening to it in French would help. Then, you know the words and roughly what they are saying. You could also put on English subtitles. It helps me get used to the rapid French.
