I can't find Immersion section nor the words section. Help!
I used Duolingo last year and then eventually forgot about it until a week ago. I've started learning French all over again and i just realized that my Immersion and Words section (the section which shows all the words you've learned) are nowhere to be found. It was there a year ago. Did Duolingo take it down? I really hope they didn't because they were really helpful at times. The only options appearing at the top of my Home screen are Home, Activity and Discussion. I am currently at level 5 if that makes a difference. Please help and tell me if the immersion and words section are still there or not.
They are still there. But you are currently in the A/B test group. A A/B test group is where Duolingo takes a small group of different people and tests like something new out on them. It's like beta testing for a new game.
Duolingo put some users in the A/B testing to see how they would react to Words and Immersion being gone.
Ok thanks. I don't know bout everybody else but I think that the Immersion and Words sections were good tools. Maybe they did it because the menu was getting overcrowded. Thanks anyway.
Your welcome! I believe they did it because people didn't really use them. Anyways, it's just a test, they might decide to give it back to everyone. But yeah, if they decided to take it away from everyone, I'll be disappointed. For right now, anyway, it's just temporary. Immersion usually helps me get XP faster to get to level 25, and Words helps me in strengthening lessons.
I have never used Words, but I believe that for anyone aspiring to achieve real knowledge of the language immersion is indispensable, and by a wide margin the most valuable tool in the Duolingo tool kit at that level.
I reacted by starting a new account. I have Words now, no Immersion (I'm not sure when it's supposed to be available in the Spanish tree, since, ya' know, it's never been available to me). The Flash Cards help quite a bit when starting a new section and it's a little upsetting I had to start a new account to have access to a standard feature.
Since my either account was only a few months old, I don't think newer accounts have access to Immersion.
They create two groups of randomly chosen users and give each group a different version of the site. They would look at various data (say for example: learning progress and/or drop out rates etc) to determine which is the best way forward with the site design.
If you feel like a quick experiment, open the following in another tab: https://www.duolingo.com/users/Maz-zhon It may take a while as there is a lot of data.
Then use find on page (usually control F) to find each of the following pieces of text (see below). Does it say true or false afterwards for each?
Edit: Opening in a new tab is the important bit - if you are shown a profile page for someone called USERS just refresh the tab
Hi, yes I just wanted to check that there is actually an A/B test. This was a check under the hood to provide some actual evidence. Thanks for doing this, but sorry about the result. :-/
One thing that you can do is to follow someone who does have immersion then click through to their activity and end up on an immersion page. Once there you can translate just as if you had it on your site. You even get credit for it on your profile and can advance in your categories.
i have the immersion problom but not the words and i am new (it is november 3 2016 and i got it this morning)
