A few days ago I wrote the following comment:

https://www.duolingo.com/comment/12719169

It's about a website : e-book share

An important warning so nobody else gets a virus into their computer from that website.

Sometimes the links don't work. Yesterday I got a book and it was okay.

Warning: Today I was trying to download another book and after it started downloading, it opened up another web page. Then voice started saying to call a number to call Microsoft and not to do any online shopping. It kept opening up more of these same pages, (like a zillion of them), every time I tried to close those pages. It said that the network was closed, something like that. The voice was saying that my computer was infected with a virus and it gave a phone number and said to call Microsoft. I didn't.

I immediately disconnected my internet connection. Then I deleted the contents of the sandbox. (Sandboxie program) Then I ran Hitman Pro but it didn't find any viruses so nothing got into my computer.

Luckily, for me I was running my browser in a sandbox, (namely Sandboxie program), so when I closed my browser, it couldn't get into my computer or I'd really have been having computer problems.

At first when I tried to delete the contents of the sandbox, it said it couldn't be deleted.

A little later it deleted the contents. The sandbox keeps stuff like that out of your computer.

After I deleted the contents of the sandbox, my Internet Security program asked if I wanted to allow, block, or quarantine something. I told it to quarantine it, so it was probably this virus trying to get into my computer.

So now I think I'll leave that website alone from now on. It gave me a scare, but lucky for me, my computer is okay. So this is a warning to leave that website alone!!!

Another file I downloaded from that same website, my antivirus said it was a malicious file.

I'd say the moderators should delete that previous comment too.

I'd say the moderators should delete that previous comment too.

You can delete it yourself. Or at least edit the part of your message(s) giving dangerous links.

Thanks for the warning. Are you able to edit the links out of the post yourself? (If so, there will be a little grey word saying "edit" towards the bottom right, at least on desktop.)

Yeah, I could have edited my previous comment, but yesterday I think I was just too upset about this virus to deal with that. I looked today and it's been deleted.

I just didn't want people to use that website and encounter that virus. I don't think it was Cryptolocker but who knows? Maybe Cryptolocker is on that website too.

I've calmed down since yesterday, but now I still feel scared about it, thinking about it again.

Yeah, it's hard to deal with. I don't blame you for being anxious. You did the right thing in posting a warning about it, whichever way you could think of to do. :)

Yes, I agree. Thank you for informing us. I will contact a moderator.

If that happened to me, I would shout/scream and go crazy. (especially considering if I was home alone) I would unplug the router and press the close button unwisely and run like crazy xD

Actually, a zillion web pages opened up, each one of them with that voice and the same message. It was like a big crowd of people talking. I disconnected the internet connection to shut off the voices.

I found it quite scary but my computer is okay because nothing got into my computer. It all disappeared when I deleted the contents of the sandbox and quarantined it.

I'm just wondering why my internet security and antivirus didn't block it, but I've heard of some new viruses such as Cryptolocker that can get past regular antivirus.

It was pretty scary, so it taught me to always run my browser in a sandbox.

I ran a Hitman Pro scan right away, because Hitman is supposed to get Cryptolocker. I don't think it was Cryptolocker.

It had dialog boxes that had Ok and Cancel. I'd click Ok or Cancel or the X in the corner to close those but it just kept opening up a zillion more identical boxes, each one with the same voice saying, "Your computer is infected with a virus. Don't do any online shopping. Call Microsoft" and giving a telephone number. It was like a big crowd of people talking. I had to shut off my internet connection to shut up the voices.

It only took me a few minutes to delete the contents of the sandbox and then my computer was okay.

I just didn't want anybody else to go on that website and possibly get that virus into their computer. What I saw of that virus, it would be anybody's worst nightmare.

My computer is okay, only thanks to Sandboxie ( a computer program).

Sometimes I save links to go back and check out later. Can you tell me what the links was so I can check and see if it was one that I save, and delete it if I did?

Do you mean the website or my comment? My comment has been deleted. The website to be leery of is www. e-book.share.net

It's like Russian Roulette, I think to download anything from that website. I was really taken by surprise. I don't remember the name of the book I was downloading. I had saved some links to books that seemed interesting but I don't dare try downloading anything more from that website now. I calmed down since yesterday, till I revisited this post I made, but I felt I should warn people so nobody gets that virus.

Just now I've gone onto WOT, a browser extension and rated it Red. Green means good. Yellow means cautious and Red means Bad. The WOT rating is yellow right now. I left a comment on WOT about that website having this virus in one of its download links. Believe me, you don't want this virus to happen to you! I was just lucky I always run my browser in a sandbox.

I meant the website, I knew you comment had been deleted and could not see what it was. I want to make sure I do not go to that site. Thanks.
