What I leaned after I gave up my streak, took a break, and came back
For those with really good memories, you may remember my post about my 436 day streak coming to an end. I had a nice break. On one occasion I was able to use my Duolingo acquired French skills to sort out the problem with my bus ticket so that I could catch my flight in Lyon. Whew!
Now I'm back at Duolingo, working toward my Esperanto golden owl. I learned a couple of things that I wanted to share with you all.
First, Duolingo is a stabilizing influence in my life. Getting my 30 XP a day is a refreshing break from everything else. It's a few minutes of tranquility. My work and family are awesome, but it's nice to get a way a little each day.
Second, I find that doing exactly 30 XP a day is a good routine. Before I would have days where I would do more than 100 XP in a day, and then later in the week I would struggle to meet my minimum goal. However, by doing exactly 30 XP a day, I have broken the manic -> lack of motivation -> manic -> ... cycle. Now, I have very few days where I lack motivation. The hardest part was not doing 40 XP on days where I was on fire.
It's good to be back. Keep up the Duolingoing, my friends.
P.S. The Esperanto course is awesome.
I think you meant "la plej bona lingvo" (the best language) rather than "la pli bona lingvo" (the better language).
I did mean the best language indeed, I'm still learning when it's appropriate to use plej and sometimes the -j at the end throws me off. Thank you for taking the time to guide me. =)
