Hey :) I wanted to know a few Russian music artists and was hoping someone could help me out here?

I've liked tatu, though I'm not hung up on any specific kind of music.

Some of the singers I like listening to.

My favourite Ukrainian singer Iryna Bilyk has switched to singing in Russian for the last 10 years. I don't think she's known in Russia, but I thought I might recommend her anyway. For example, I like her song «Рассвет» (lyricstranslate)

I like Mel'nitsa. Their songs often have fantasy lyrics (although less so in newer songs). But sometimes the exact meaning is pretty hard to understand (often up to the point that everyone has their own interpretation of what the song is about), so it might not be ideal for learning Russian. ^^" My personal favourite song is «Оборотень» (youtube, lyricstranslate), although I'm not sure I really understand it, but I like the imagery. :D

This might be old-fashioned but I like Sofia Rotaru. One of my favourite songs is Луна, луна. Yes, it's ages old and I used to listen to in on my Grandpa's reel-to-reel tape-recorder when I was a child xD, but I still like this song. After all, it's still true «нам часто в жизни не хватает друзей и доброты» 'often, we don't have enough friends and kindless in our life'.

I really like Zemfira. She's really famous, and her songs are also very metaphorical so they might be difficult to understand. One of the most famous songs is П.М.М.Л. where falling in love is compared to drowning.

I also like the Uzbek singer Shahzoda. She has Russian songs, such as Огни Алма-аты 'Almaty lights'. There is a Youtube playlist with her songs only in Russian (although her Uzbek songs are equally nice!).

I also enjoy Zemfira. There is perhaps some nostalgia connection there, as when I first started dating my (now) wife, I remember her playing Zemfira a lot and it seemed so exotic and foreign to me. She has a naturally great voice her music is a little less "pop" to me.

My favorite Zemfira song is probably Дыши - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSWwQiYLA3o

Хочешь is also nice (and much more popular) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpJ_fYyAeYk

    and Прогулка - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap6dCyFTk-Y

I REALLy liked your list! Frankly, I'm obsessed with П.М.М.Л. Thank you! Shahzoda is pretty cool xD Sofia actually has pretty good sound. My parents play music similar to that quite often (just not in Russian xD) I liked Рассвет, too. Thanks! :)

ФАБРИКА is a renowned Russian band, but I believe they split a few years ago. Сати Казанова made a few hit songs by herself though. Here are two that I enjoy thoroughly and would definitely recommend having a listen to before her other songs: Счастье есть and До рассвета.

5sta Family is also quite popular; this group is a pop group and is comprised of 1 female lead (Юлианна Караулова) and 2 male supports. They're undergoing a few changes since Yulianna left to make her own way in the music industry, but they're still quite good. Some of their older songs I would recommend are: моя мелодия, я буду, тук-тук, and вместе мы.

Another very popular artist is Ёлка. She's Ukrainian but has many great songs in Russian as well, such as провеинс, около тебя, and so on.

Dan Bilan is everywhere on Youtube. He's Moldovian but has been topping Russian music charts for about 5 years and going now. I don't listen to any particular songs of his, but I'm sure if you go on Youtube and search him, you'll find some great songs!

I hope this helps; happy listening :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euli7bBBnUY Pretty good. Also, I know some Bollywood music. It's shockingly similar to Bollywood pop music and has some sort of an America's top 40 feel to it. It's quite fascinating. I've looked a lot of the songs you've given me and this what I feel. Am I getting it completely wrong and/or does it sound absurd? Even the videos have this Bollywood vibrancy kind of thing in fields and what-not with this American Dream kind of... theme. Am I...? Is that right? Or is this what happens when you're sort too familiar with EDM music from girl pop duo with far too much drama? o.O

I'm glad you like them! :)

Haha, I think that Sati's definitely leaning more towards that genre - I agree with you! Her latest song, спит моё счастье definitely has that type of feel to it as well :) [http://rutube.ru/video/30410036406b504b29c8c93d62aeeabd/] I definitely think тук-тук is like that too, but I'm not too sure about the other songs; it's been a while since I've last listened to them.

Maybe if you were looking for something more rap-hip hop: Время и стекло - имя 505, #кАроче IOWA - Бьёт Бит

Or dramatic (which I find lots of Russian music to be like): Валерия - Капелькою

Or more like American music: Сергей Лазарев - это всё она

There's really such a wide variety ^_^ (haha, maybe you can tell from here that I love listening to Russian music!)

xD It's all pretty interesting. I really don't have "type" I want to listen to. I've realised that when I do that, I don't like it. For example, I like Gothic metal/rock. However, when it's the same genre in a different language like Spanish, I don't seem to enjoy it. So, hit me anything :)

And Basta is also pretty good. For some odd reason I can't find that comment that gave me this song. Uh, thanks, though. It's pretty cool. And has a rock-y edge to it. Thank you :)

Утро and Ploho, are two more modern bands I really like.

    N1NT3ND0 for some rap.
