It would seem so! Eradus, the user who posted this, is one of the contributors to the English for Korean speakers course, and he posted the same thing in the Incubator: https://incubator.duolingo.com/courses/en/ko/status

I get the feeling that Korean is going to be one of those languages that I never planned to learn but end up obsessed with.

I never had any intention of learning Irish, but I was bored at the library one time and they had a Pimsleur audio course. Ended up loving it. Then came here and did the tree.

Then I had no particular intention of ever learning Polish, but it showed up here and I was curious how much it would help that I could already speak OK Russian (turns out, quite a bit more than I expected), so I jumped in. And it's turned out to be crazy fun, consonants and all.

So I am sure I will love having Korean on here... I know reasonable Mandarin and a little Japanese from high school, so it will be interesting seeing the shared vocab elements etc.

It'll probably take a while to reach beat, but that gives me time to finish the Polish tree, and Welsh and Hungarian at least, in the meantime.

Vietnamese was the first East Asian language here, Indonesian was the second, and Korean is the third.

Culturally speaking. Vietnam is in the East Asian Cultural sphere. Setting it apart from its south east asian counterparts. But Geographically Vietnam is not within East Asia.

Well... In terms of culture and history, Vietnamese should definitely be considered East Asian - it's in the CJK sphere of influence, sharing much of the same Sinitic common vocabulary that Korean and Japanese also borrowed from Classical Chinese.

Whereas Indonesian has more in common with the South East Asian languages, which have significant influence and borrowings from Sanskrit, Pali, Persian etc. Even though they are not actually genetically related to them.

Although if we're talking genetic relationships, you can disregard all that...

Yeah, similar kind of structures in both Turkish and Korean. In fact, for a long time people used to suspect that Korean and Turkish (and possibly Japanese) were actually distantly related as part of a family called the "Altaic languages".

This opinion is now mostly discredited by linguists, though.

That's true. They are a lot of Turkish around the Seoul area that own street market type places. Turkish ice cream is popular. From the ones I talked to they found Korean easy because of the grammar was similar. The best foreigner speakers of Korean I heard in Korea was always the Turks.

Yes,they are similar(sentence structure) Actually I'm learning Korean from English websites (English is my 3rd language) but the Turkish alphabet (pronunciation) and sentece structure makes it so much easier then for English native speaker (who speak only English)

Great news! As of September 16th, the Korean for English incubator site says that they have 3 people doing alpha testing on the course: https://incubator.duolingo.com/courses/ko/en/status It still has a long way to go, but I think this means that it's really going to happen! I suppose having it for Christmas would be asking too much? New Year's? In addition to the practice advice given on the incubator site, I would add watching TV, movies and other media on viki.com and dramafever.com. These can be streamed. Hulu and Netflix also have a limited collection of Korean media. 대박! Developers and alpha testers - 화이팅!
