If you want to follow the travels of Duo go to the Duo goes Series Directory. Our owl friend has visited many wonderful places. I want to thank widle and annika_a for their help.

Estonia is bordered to the south by Latvia and to the east by Russia. To the north and west, she is bordered by the Baltic Sea. Across the Finnish Gulf, there is Finland and further to the west Sweden. Estonia has more than 2000 islands.

The Estonian language is Finno-Ugric. Its closest relative is Finnish. Other Finno-Ugric languages include Hungarian and Sami, as well as smaller languages like Mari spoken in Russia.

Duo arrived first in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. There he visited the Old Town, a perfectly preserved Medieval town with Hanseatic architecture. Duo visited its many museums, cafés and galleries, and flew around admiring the beautiful buildings.

Then Duo went to the Kõrvemaa Nature Reserve to observe the beautiful landscapes and the many rare species that live there. Duo, ever the avid bird watcher, spotted a golden eagle and many other wonderful creatures that live in the reserve. And so Duo fell in love with beautiful Estonia.

Then Duo flew along the coast line until he arrived at Valaste. There Duo admired the magnificent Valaste waterfall located along the Ontika cliff. There was a platform for tourists, who had come to admire the waterfall, but Duo decided fly closer to get a good look at the marvellous sight.

Then Duo flew to the island of Saaremaa. There are old castles and sandy beaches there, but Duo was most interested in the windmills at Angla, many of which are still used daily. He almost flew too close to the windmills and lost a few feathers!

Then Duo was off to the city of Tartu, the intellectual capital of Estonia. There Duo enjoyed theatre and museums. But most of all, Duo wanted to walk in the halls and corridors of Tartu University. Founded in 1632, it is one of the oldest universities in Northern Europe.

Then it was time to head back to Tallinn and to shop some appropriate souvenirs.

But, alas, nothing lasts forever, and so Duo had to leave Estonia and go home. Here is Duo's final look at Estonia: the Tallinn Airport.

While flying home, Duo came to a big realisation: "I love the Estonian language."

And so Duo began to dream. He dreamed about being able to learn Estonian. He dreamed that everyone would have the chance to study Estonian. And sometimes dreams come true. :)

Every time I see one of these I find a new language I want to learn and a new place I want to go to some day. :-) The Valaste waterfall looks like it has a rainbow behind it! :-)

I love Tallin, a beautiful city. I remember going into an antique shop in the old town and seeing about 30 or 40 Russian sub-machine guns of varying ages and manufacturers lined up along the counter. I was very tempted but I just knew I would never get it back to the cruise ship, let alone get it ashore in England.

Yay, it's great to see the 'Duo goes to.....' series back again.

The only trouble is that I want to go to every place I have seen featured. :)

This is really sweet and I really want to have that coffee cup now. Would be an excellent present to all of my non-Estonian friends :) Kidding, I would hoard them and keep them all to myself! My precious!

Well, most of them are more like islets ('laid' in Estonian). Like the one that was for sale few years ago. The one with the coolest name ever - Bird ❤❤❤❤ land (Linnusitamaa). I kid you not, it is in the waters near Saaremaa ;)

Very nice pictures with Duo and the information on Estonia. The maps were nice and I never knew there were so many other Finno-Ugric languages. Here's hoping for more of the Finno-Ugric languages to join DL. Thank you! :)

Estonia! I spent a grand total of one weekend in Tallinn, and it was enough to make me absolutely fall in love with the country. Tallinn old town is like walking back in time. Ahhh, you make me want to go back! Aitäh for all your hard work :)

I have been to Estonia last year. It's a pleasant calm place, maybe the most "desovietizated" from former Soviet countries. I found it quite similar to Finland.

Well done! We visited Estonia last year, but we haven't seen much; out of all the pictures, I could only recognize Tallinn. I brought back a T-shirt with some Estonian words on it.

Wow, this is actually really beautiful. Estonia has always been one of those countries I've just sort of overlooked - I think the flag put me off! It must be incredible/terrifying to stand on one of the platforms at the waterfall. The post is in the directory now.
