I think it does a good job. It encourages me to do exercises every day and when I come across things I don't understand I either do my own research, or read the comments, or both. If I was learning independently, just using a book or web sites, I likely wouldn't work at it every day and I probably wouldn't have any reason to research things like when you use "il est" instead of "c'est" and so on.

I can't put it into words (in English, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Hebrew, or Japanese)!

Repetition, in a way that is way less boring than using a textbook or workbook.

I speak German fairly well, but Duolingo is helping me learn little things that I missed or forgot over the years. The biggest of these is correct spelling. There are many articles that I've forgotten. I've even learned a new word or two.

I've dabbled in French from time to time. Duolingo is helping me make the connection between the written and the spoken versions of French. The grammar is becoming clear. I'm also learning a lot of words, plus the specific forms of words I only kind of knew.

I do think it's important to learn from many sources, but I'm finding Duolingo to be very useful.
