You need to apply your knowledge of idioms. Just memorizing them is difficult and frustrating. I've seen some idioms in immersion, maybe you should try translating a story. Or writing one!

Also, if you can figure out the literal translation that may help you too. It can be fun to say did you know in such-a-such a language, they say "..............." which literally means ".............." in order to say rain?! You can find some pretty crazy and funny idioms.

Read and listen. Books, news, tv series, radio, living natives...

A good tool is a dictionary of idioms but don't learn purely from it. I use it more like a reference, so that I don't need to write down idioms while watching tv series, I just remember approximately what it could have been and look it up for exact words, explanations, examples. For more examples, you can always use google and get plenty of websites where the idiom is used.
