I am about to have a job interview and I study the questions. Would you please help me and tell me if my English is correct ? Thanks for your time.
-WEAKNESSES I’ve got the sense of dialogue a little developped but it allows me to easily engage with people and we can learn a lot of things talking with everybody else. Within my own circle, it is sometimes said that I am too emotional but at the same time, this strenghtens my adaptation capacity to situations. Next, I easily challenge myself and I will easily come and have my work checked, especially at the beginning. De facto, it will certainly happen that I come and see my supervisor if any doubt exists as to this or that action.
I am Cécile Meunier. Today my goal is to become Customer Account Manager in a large international firm. To support this career plan, I have got 3 maintstays :
- the first mainstay is tecnical. In the tourism industry or in the secretariat profession, I have worked with several sofwares. General practice softwares like Pack Office, on MAC or PC, and specific softwares like Amadeus, SNCM, that have their own language and A4S and its specific nomenclature applying for education and formation. I have therefore this facility with the computer systems.
Bon chance!
Perhaps another english word for "mainstay" in this case would be"skill sets" or "areas of expertise": vous avez trois: technical, organizing trips, and your familiarity with computer software, or your method of working (vous êtes efficace, oui?). "Secretarial" would be the english adjective equivilent for "secretariat".
I continue (right now I am translating a script I have written in French few days ago)
Strenghs : I quickly learn and I am rather self-taught. I am always looking for ways to improve.
At the same time, I always demonstrate flexibility. For instance, I am able to organize my workload and prioritize tasks according to importance and time sensitivity. As well I can follow the personal method of a colleague as to guarantee a relay.
Yessss ! I saw that after. Thank you so much, prky, for your time and kindness. I do a lot of small errors. But do you think I can keep this kind of text or there is more idiomatic sentences ?
TRICK QUESTIONS Are you religious ? What do you exactly mean by religious ? Do you speak about ethic or philosophic conception, or religious practice ?
How many years do you intend to stay in our firm ? Elude : This is not in these terms that I approach my career. At that point, this is this job and this firm that match the best to my professional ambition.
If you encounter the question about religion in an interview with a US firm, it is not allowed.
Bonne chance, Ccile94405 !
Hello ! Actually, I found this question in the "trick questions" chapter of some books because in France, it is forbidden to discriminate about religion, physical appearance, ethnic origins, but you can ask the question as to see how your candidate answers. To elude when it is a good thing to do, is a good point. But it cannot be the reason why you don't hire somebody. It is difficult to prove ! So I prefer to prepare myself to this question ! How do you find my English, prky ?
Next, I’ve got a second mainstay. I have organized travels for some companies. I have been travelling myself. I had complicated situations to solve, for instance the return of foreign nationals after the attacks of the eleventh of September. I negociated special travelling conditions with airlines and hotels. As such, I had regular external exchanges in English and sometimes in Italian. Furthermore, I have a methodical way of working and I set up processes to doing it right and fast. This has always made me readily integrate my job. At the same time, I always know the exact stage of progression of my files and I can report it to management to the minute.
"le mot en englais: negotiated". "I have traveled, myself." Where have you traveled?
I traveled in England, Scotland, Italy, Balearic Islands, Japan, Senegal. But I look forward the hiring manager to request further information.
and the third and the last skill set is that I have got a commercial feeling. I prepare files with always in mind how to seduce and gain the customer loyalty. I also have in mind to bring him the best possible reception and the best service quality. This is relevant for me to embody the values of the firm that trust me, to be proactive and contribute to a good teamwork.
" seduce" a l'implication d'attraction romantique. Le mot "attract" est meiux, plus neutre et professionnel. C'est " the firm that trusts me" et est preferable qu'on dit " to contribute to to a team" ou " to work well within a team" . "a good teamwork" n'est pas faux, mais il est un peu etrange à l'oreille. Bon chance!
OBJECTIONS « We are not currently recruiting » When the recruitment period is ? Maybe will you operate replacements during holidays..? In that case, it could be interesting we meet for a first contact. It’s a pity because this job suits me and I have got the profile to succeed in this function.
Your profile doesn’t match with what we are looking for. Could you be more precise please ? What point does not convince you ? Ex : you don’t master this tool. > this tool can easily be handled. I could complete a two-week method training course. I also have such skills as....
In paragraph OBJECTIONS: English: "When is the recruitment period? Will you need holiday replacements? In that case, could we arrange a meeting? I am sorry, because I could succeed in this position.
(First paragraph at top of page in English: "...strengthens my capacity to adapt to situations. I enjoy challenging myself, and welcome suggestions to improve my work. I would certainly see my supervisor should there be doubts about my actions."
Hello everybody !
First of all, I want to thank you for your support and your kindness. Yesterday night, I spent two hours with an American friend of mine and she helped me to rewrite this text and make it more attractive. And all your suggestions were all good. Congratulations ;-)
Thanks so much !
This is not the end. I will go on studying English untill we schedule a job appointment with the firm. There are some questions that can be asked and it's also a good exercise to translate from French to English.
This afternoon, I will go and borrow dvds at the media library of my small town (I live in Montoire-sur-le-Loir, 41800). I will watch films in English and with ou without English subtitles.
Have a nice day, everybody !
Great to hear you're improving! I too will be watching this on and off; seeing if I can drop in and lend a hand for you, when I can. :-) Good luck!
Cécile, congratulations!!!!! All theses talks for a learner... it is almost wonderfull. I am sure you will learn all and more lessons again. Dear chris and prky thank you for being there for her it is sympathetic. I am also one this learnes so I don't speak perfectly english
