Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

My sister uses Duolingo too! (and many others I didn't know about!)

I have been using Duolingo for a long time, and a while ago my sister started using German phrases, I thought "well, ok, she like German....and her BF is German...." but then it started getting worse and worse (better and better ;) ).

She knew I was interested in learning German, but I didn't tell her about Duo, so a few times I would answer her in German. Then she started asking if I know what all kinds of words are, but not just any words, mostly words from duo, like newspaper and Tea, stuff no one would know if not for duo.

So when I knew what everyone was, she laughed and asked "Are you using the same app I am?"

"I don't know, am I? what one are you using?" she says she will never tell, so i said "Is it Duolingo? HA!" . And she laughed and said yes! And we high fived and talked about it.... and apparently, not only are all MY friends using it, but all her friends too!

Thanks Duo!

That is why it would be a great feature to automatically find other duo users among your facebook friends. Right now you can only invite them, but just discovering and adding them on duolingo with one button would be great. At least I'm way to lazy to type everyones Email into the "search learners" box :)

You can do this already. Scroll through the list of FB friends and ones that are on Duo will show "Follow" instead of "Invite". You can use ctrl+f to speed things up.

oh, alright, then it's just that most of my friends didn't use their facebook accounts to login to duolingo. But thanks for the tip.

Nice :)

To answer your question, I once went to school and saw my friend using her tablet. At this time, I had just begun using Duolingo. I found out that she was also learning new languages via DL, and that we were on the same levels for the same languages!

Wow, that is so sad - your sister was using Duolingo and you didn't even know! Maybe you should set up a surveillance system in case there's anything else she's been hiding. ;)

Stalking... always the best solution for the avoidance of awkward moments with family members.

Uhh, okaaay. So you and your sister were learning German, and you didn't even know that the other was using it?

Don't take this as an insult, I'm just asking for elaboration.

Haha, aww, that's pretty cute!

I have a similar story: I just started using a social networking site called Lang-8 so I could get help with my German.

Well, my brother is trying to learn Japanese, and I thought 'hey, maybe this site would help him as there are Japanese speakers here, too.'

So I told him about it, and guess what? He already had made an account a year ago, and he didn't even tell me about the site! The nerve of those siblings!

(And he still hasn't told me his username...)

Haha, I think it's fair to say, there is a whole branch of Duolingo Vocabulary we learn here that you don't get anywhere else, or at least not in school :)
